Something I've never seen

In my opinion, which means next to nothing on matters like this, it is an illusion (like Chris mentioned). To me, it only looks like a "2" from a certain angle. Is the size of the "2" the same as the numbers in the date?

To me it looks like the 2 is coming out by the way the shadows look, instead of being stamped in. Did you ever figure out which one it was?
