Stopped by to see my uncle today. Since I have not seen him in awhile he asked what I have been up to and of course I told him about my relatively new found passion for collecting coins and he tells me about how he bought some coins a long time ago by mail bid from the mint, though he was not sure what the details were as it was a long time ago. My interest was immediately peaked and I asked if he happened to have the coins still to which he said, sure do somewhere in the bedroom closet. We went and looked and a few minutes later there they were... 6 GSA CC Morgan Dollars all with their OGP. He had an 81-CC, 82-CC, 2 83-CC's and 2 84-CC's. He was so happy when I told him the value of what he had and thankful for me sharing what I know that he was kind enough to give me one of the 84-CCs. It was a pretty good day I must admit.
Good Karma! Congrats! I'm sure a lot of people(heartless) would have said they're worth nothing and tried to buy them. Good for you for bring an honest Abe
So very true. Plus it feels great being able to make someone else's day by providing the full truth. I felt happy as all get out just being able to see this and provide my uncle with current accurate info on their value. I actually refused to take the 84 but he would not take no for an answer, so I finally said ok and he was just as happy as could be.
They're probably all UNC. The two without "Uncirculated" on the case may have some toning on the reverse. Chris
What's the difference between the ones marked "Silver Dollar" vs. "Uncirculated Silver Dollar"? They all look "uncirculated" to me. The upper middle one looks especially clean! Better pics would be nice...my drool towel isn't quite full, yet.
Put me on that list if your uncle ever decides to sell his 81CC. I need that one! Kudos on your nice find. I would have been doing the happy dance after finding those.
Back then, toned coins were considered "damaged" coins...that's what my Father always said. He would wrap Unc silver rolls in thin aluminum foil sheets and put them back into the rolls...just to prevent toning. I'm sure he would be astonished/shocked at the lengths folks go to add color to their coins.
