Just curious why there is no guy on the new Girl Scout Commem. It shows the traditional image of what we think of regarding Girl Scouts. Why couldn't Boy Scouts have been honored in the same manner? Unfair? Agenda? Typical US Mint IMO. That why I prefer the creative no compromise world coins from various World Mints.
Why is it that way you ask? It's a man's world, baby. Men make more money, there are more male executives, more male politicians and heads of state, more male leaders in organized religion, men control women's reproductive rights, etc. I'm not saying it's right or I agree with it. I'm saying it is reality. Putting a girl on the Boy Scouts commemorative was pretty much throwing women a bone. Since men have things their way anyway, there is no need to throw them a bone. It's like asking, "Why is there no white history month?" The answer is pretty much the same.
The Boy Scouts have a program that is co-ed, so we got the girl on the BSA coin. The Girl Scouts don't have such a program, it's all female.
There's no guys in the girls scouts program 'cause nobody would agree to wear a dress. I mean, it's not like Scotland, ya know?
Either way....we are stuck with yet another non creative offering from the US Mint. A US Commem will probably never win the Coin of the Year award.
Agree with the first sentence. As for the second part, provided you mean Krause's COTY, look (and scroll down) here: http://www.numismaster.com/ta/inside_numis.jsp?page=coin-of-the-year-archive Christian
Repeat post from the other Girl Scout thread: Yes so true. I have to keep up with my commemoratives as well, so the US Mint has got me again. – This is opinion only, so please don’t stone me. This design is horrible. It reminds of the Boy Scouts coin, but this looks to me as in the same style of the USO, and the Korea commemoratives. The design looks lazy. – Imagine this: Evergreen trees in the background, a camp site setup, a fire with girls gathered around (maybe singing, roasting marshmallows, one with a guitar). This is all in the background, while a lone scout is in front placing the Girl Scout flag in to the ground. – The reverse needs to have the Girl Scout logo much smaller, with another beautiful scene. Maybe girls sewing or doing some kind of project showing teamwork in high detail. – I have seen what the US Mint is capable of, and this is almost like the engraver was like “Is this good enough boss?”. –Again, just an opinion.
