Alright, so I've started my type set in my dansco 7070 and I'm getting ready to start buying the big boys. I'm not trying to do first year/last year just a coin in the date range. I've noticed that the higher mintages aren't always the cheapest. Im looking for raw coins that I don't have to crack out and for right now problem coins are alright if they don't look too bad but have good detail. Should I start with the smaller coins or jump right to the bigger priced coins. I really want the 1800-1807(I believe) just because I love the reverse on most of the US coins in that time frame. Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Many of the more expensive coins are the smaller ones in that type set. But, luckily, overall the set can be done relatively cheaply. I was able to put together a nicely matched set in VF-XF and never spent over $150 for any single coin. Of course thats been a while ago too.

The seated liberty dollars too for under $150?

My advice is to start with the more expensive coins first. I know it's more fun to try to fill the book up fast with as many pieces as possible, but when I did that with my old 7070 set, I regretted having the nicest coin slots empty. Other advice: buy the seated dollars and trade dollar from a trusted dealer that you know. You might pay a little more, but it's worth it to KNOW you've got the real-deal. Have fun!

depending on where you plan on purchasing these coins the decision may not be up to you but rather what is available from the dealer I have a first year type set in a Intercept Shield album and found the seated dollars to be a lot more than I had expected and the quality of the coins I had planned on purchasing to be a much lower grade than what I wanted to collect a good example the 1853 seated half there are a lot of them out there in XF or lower but just one step up and they start getting expensive $500 and up and I have 56 first year type coins out of 70 so I am doing good but some of the last ones will be my most expensive this album is on youtube search for richcali21 or "My U.S. Type set" out of all of my albums this is my most enjoyable and the one I look at the most and by upgrading most of my first coins purchased I have started two other U.S. type set albums with the original coins

Are most dealer prices similar to what I'm seeing on eBay? The ones around here have nothing like this. Oldest stuff they have is Large Cents. We have a small coin show coming up in the next month so ill be looking around there a bit.
