    5 Francs "Ceres" 1851

The Ceres head was only issued for 3 years during the Second Republic, then reappeared in 1870 only at the beginning of the 3rd Republic

    5 Francs 1873 and 50(00) francs 1976 Hercules

I always liked the Hercules group design, and this is a nice illustration of the effects of inflation: a 25 gram 5 franc piece from 1873, and a 30 gram 50 (new) franc piece from 1976, after a 100-to-1 revaluation, = 5000 old francs.

    money for the penguins...

Here is a pretty 500 franc piece from the French Southern Territories, a small group of islands populated almost exclusively by penguins, plus a handful of French researchers. Interestingly, the penguins maintain a merchant fleet of 72 vessels totaling 2,800,000 gross registered tons!

Is it cheating to include 100 "Francos" from Equitorial Guinea?

The 50 francs coin was actually introduced in 1974 because the 10 francs "predecessor" (1965-73) was hoarded by many. As silver had become more expensive - in the early/mid 70s pretty much every country had done away with circulating silver coins - , the mint stopped making the tenner and made a "fiftier" instead. That piece's face value was chosen in order to be high enough above the volatile silver price. The Hercules Group coins were introduced shortly after the 1789 revolution, by the way. See here for example - 5 francs from "Year 4", ie. 1795/96. Quite expensive in good condition. :)

5 Franken for Jerome Napoleon as King of Westphalia.
Napoleon set up his younger brother Jerome as king of this german state. He took good care of his family, setting them up in the various lands conquered by him. An interesting coin and quite scarce.
