looks like the $5 star spangled unc mintage is 7,027 3rd lowest. http://news.coinupdate.com/us-mint-sales-report-second-term-frances-cleveland-gold-coins-debut-1783/
VERY bearish story on US bullion coins in today's WSJ. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323874204578219421777432536.html
Danr- I'm generally not fraidy cat to repost copyrighted bits, but NewsCorp is especially evil in its complaints thereof. I started another thread w/ takeaway opinion points; please see the 'Bullion' forum.
Shoot.....my 2013 proofs are 'in stock and reserved'. Could it be that they stopped the presses to begin producing some collector versions?
Kennedy rolls and bags (with low mint set numbers and low bag/roll numbers these could be a winner). The only problem is that the mint set coins are stellar (absolutely superb gems!) this year so there will be tons of ms67's and many 68's http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...1&parent_category_rn=10156&top_category=10156
I dunno about them going the way of the dodo though, because honestly, why pay so much for just the quarters when you can get them in the Proof Set itself? Especially when it's SOOOO much over face for 5 coins? I mean seriously? The dollar set is $18.95, over 4 times face and the quarters are $14.95, nearly 15 times face. The Proof set is $32.95, CHEAPER than both of those combined, and you get the cent, nickel, dime, and half dollar in that for cheaper. Only a fool would pay those prices just to have something "first." Suckers are born every second though. I see the individual sets either dropping in price or going away yes, but not the complete clad proof set itself.
