Been out of the game for close to two weeks. My really close grandmother passed away this past week unexpectedly. Been a rough few days.

Stopped in on my pickup bank today while I was out. I got a box of nickels then asked if they had any CWR halves. She said yep, been saving them for you. She brought out 6 rolls. I said let me get two now and I'll come right back with the money for the other 4. Got in the truck, opened up the 2 rolls and found a very nice '69 kennedy. Rushed to the ATM got more money and went back to get the other 4. I found a '66 in one of those rolls. She also told me that she had a box of halves waiting for me when I was ready for it!

Box of nickels had no silver but it produced: 38 pre-60, 2009p, 2009d, and a canadian

Haha make the drive down and I'll find a spot for ya. It's being held pretty much smack dab in TimZim territory haha.
I'm guessing this was directed at me.Unfortunately, yes, I'm human. I sure hope next week is better too...
Sorry, Rick, I seriously, seriously doubt either of those are '64 SMS coins. The SMS coins are an extreme rarity with only a handful known to exist based on VERY specific die markers (scratches, gouges, etc.). What you've found are two, nice, hammered '64's.
No, on the PCGS forums, people more or less ignore you when you are wrong. If you really had found a pair of 1964 SMS dimes, that thread would be about 5 pages long at this point. It's the old adage... if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. They're nice business-strike dimes, and nothing more.
Ah, interesting. Glad I was at least able to point you in the right general direction.

Did 4 boxes while driving around today, nothing in 'em... a few more left, then 10 tomorrow, hopefully... Did pick up $80 CWR halves, from a bank that has produced many solid rolls in the past... no silver. there was one weird half that, after some preliminary investigation, I'm thinking was struck on a Hatian 50 centimes planchet. No idea what that would be worth. Gonna get it weighed tomorrow to confirm my suspicions.

My bank said that they would increase me to 6 boxes from 4 without charging a fee. I'm gonna treat them to lunch tomorrow (Thank you to Subway for their $5 Februany!)

I have no boxes to search until Tuesday so I might call around and ask for CWR of Halves.

I can tell you the second you posted definitely isn't SMS, see the weakness on IGWT? SMS coins are struck twice and inspected by hand for a good strike, they were prototypes, so all were checked quite closely. The first one isn't either, since it has substantial wear on the die... as evidenced by the "halo" effect you're seeing behind FDR's head, which is noticeable on both of the other BS coins you posted.

Pretty obviously not SMS... the fact that you even began to think you discovered two, out of a population of 40 examples max, is a huge red flag. You thought you had found 5% of the estimated mintage? C'mon dude.

Well, I've read forums on collectors universe about people who think they found one of theses 1964 sms, and they had know problem telling them they weren't ! Like I said before, the eye and mouth, tell the story about the different between a regular strike, and a sms Roosevelt dime ! The photo of my coin doesn't tell the story for markers to look for ! I only have a dino-scope, and it only does so much, all the fine lines are there and etc, that's why I used the eye and mouth for markers ! I'll post them again ! First photo from pcgs of a sms, second photo of my coin, and last is a photo from pcgs of a regular strike, or business strike 1964 sms.jpg A004 - 20130110_080108 (2).jpg 1964 business strike.jpg

Rick, it's a business strike, end of story. I'd put my whole collection on PCGS never slabbing that thing as an SMS coin.

Here's a SP67... note all the die polish lines all over the place.

no need to fight, your right about sending it to pcgs, their the top of the line in grading, but like i said, the eye and mouth tell the true story, can't say that they aren't different !:rollling:

Got my regular Thursday pick up of 2 boxes of nickels and 2 boxes of cents. Went through the cents(They weren't all 2012P!!!) and pulled 3 war (42P, 45Px2) and a VF 1938D. :) One key down 4 to go.
Now time to tackle those cents.

    Second box of halves - 1 x 40%
i'm not killing it with these boxes but they are not all skunks and they are reliable at ordering so I'm going to keep on going with them. Weird thing is a branch two towns over has a different delivery day and the boxes are stamped. They produce a lot better.

I know this isn't big bucks, but I sold 7 rolls of 1940-1959 Jefferson (no wars) on ebay for $25 and the gold toned 1939d Jefferson for $11. Pretty good ROI considering It cost me $14.05 to make $36.

$1,000 in coin counter quarters gave up a '64 washington. Picked up a coin counter bag of dimes since I had the $100 in my pocket - nothing of special interest. Reminded yet again of why I hate nickels.
