It's a nice coin but I'm not crazy about the reverse. I did my duty though, and bought a lot of cookies from the gals at church. Now I've just got to eat them. It's a tough job, but I'm willing to make sacrifices for the good of the youth.
Not for that price! For crying out loud, they cost more than an ase! I'm gonna wait until like most commem's the price falls for them. These aren't going to be as hot as the Lincoln or Indian head ones.
With most commemoratives, there is a built in donation of about $10.00 to the group being recognized, which accounts for a good part of the higher cost. I don't plan on getting a coin either, but may just make a small donation to the Girl Scouts instead.
Yes- I will pick up a proof example, to put away for my daughter, who is 5 now and maybe someday might be a GS.
I donate to my local girl scouts quite often, I buy many of,boxes each year, send them off to my fellow troops serving overseas. But for the coin, the mint is inflating they're prices way too much.
Yep, $50.00 is pretty steep for the just the uncirculated. Even taking away the $10.00 donation, there is still about a $17.00 (roughly 50%) premium. Ouch! Remember the coin only contains .75 of an ounce of silver.
I like the whole cookie thing, but I would rather just give the local girl scouts a nice donation instead of buying cookies.
In all fairness to the US Mint engravers though, that reverse IS the official Girl Scout logo, so whacha gonna do?
They should have made the coin look like a cookie. It would have been a huge hit. They would have sold a lot and made more money for the organization.
I don't fault the engravers either. Whoever was responsible for making the decision should have recognized that the logo looks OK in color on paper, but it looks horrible on a coin.
I will not buy one of these coins from the Mint. I will buy more cookies this year. If some Girl Scouts came to my house selling these coins, I'd probably buy one from them. Especially if they worked something out with the Mint that they'd get more of the proceeds if they did some of the selling.
