This was my 2nd box ever too. My first box was just yesterday. Since Jan 19th, I've found a total now of 9 war nickels (4 since yesterday). You should be getting some soon. I think it's just a numbers game.. I'm definitely going to get another box. May also get my first dime box this weekend..

Thanks Mr. Flute! That is kind of what I thought.. Unless in Excellent shape, I'm not going to bother keeping them... All I want is a Really, Really, Really Nice 1 of each for my collection.. just to fill in the spots...

Well, now I can say I finally know what it feels like to find a War Nickel! I felt like I was kissing a girl for the first time...

    I mean, goosebumps, excitement, yahoooo!

Found a 1943 P in GREAT XF Condition.. No heavy scratches, very little wear, a very nice coin.. Dirty looking, but nice...

That was out of the 15th roll I opened.. Still have 35 more left in this box... Hoping for many, many, many more..

    Dimes:
    $100 BWR - Skunked
$205 CWR - 2 Roosie's (one being cull, but I'll take it considering these are my first silver dime finds in a while)

Edge searchers: I know its been mentioned before...

Some of you can easily catch this, but I just wanted to point out how some dimes can seem to hide very well. Viewing the picture below, you can easily see one of the silver dimes, but the other blends in very well with the rest of the clad dimes. It was even more hidden just because we do not (at least I do not) get such a blown up view of the coins while searching. The two silver dimes are marked with red arrows...

    Good luck all!

Well put! I feel like that every time I pull a silver coin! It is an exciting hobby for sure.

For you out there that use TD Bank's Penny Arcade, do they take halves? I was thinking about opening an account there just so I could use the machine.

Next time make it a contest and let us all guess. I would like to think I would have pulled that one since there is no clear copper showing. I pull dirty stuff just to make sure.

They do, but each machine has a different limit as to what it considers "full". I've seen both $50 and $100. I just dumped yesterday's box which required a teller to make 5 bag changes.

I thought about doing that, but figured no one would be very interested. I was wrong and will definitely request some guesses next time ;)

Also, I bet you (and others that pull the dirties), find a lot more than others! It can be tedious, but better to be safe than sorry. Keep it up!!!

Dark gray is a dead giveaway - but as always, if you can't see the copper/nickel bands, pull it and date check!

Also, a box of dimes this evening yielded 2 bright and shiny roosies, and $1.50 in teller tray halves were a skunk.

    No, all 1942-D nickels are made of the cupro-nickel alloy, not the 35% silver. There's only 11 nickels in the war set, 2 from 1942, 3 1943, 3 1944, 3 1945.

Box of Halves: Skunk on Silver, but got a 2004S proof and a 2000 50 Centavos from Ecuador.

    2013:
    Day: 43
    Silver: 65

    Differential: +22 :)

Don't bother, here is what the Redbook says:

    1942D 13,938,000 NOT Silver.

1942 'P' no actual mint mark on it: 49,789,000 NOT Silver.

    1942 P 57,873,000 Silver.

    1942S 32,900,000 Silver.

If you want to be technical about it, ALL coins minted in 1942 are 'war' coins.

"Genuine pieces of other wartime dates struck in nickle by error are known to exist."

So if you DO get one which is not made out of the right material, you either have a counterfiet, or a very valuable error.
