Will they grade proof sets like this all the way through the present? I was just thinking on how i want to put my washington quarter set together and my issue is how to transition from the 1932-1964 book, and collecting all the silver quarters after 1964. I would love to get everything else graded through NGC like this picture. I wonder if they have a special holder for the Bicentennial Silver sets?
Actually, NGC announced that they no longer make the multi-coin holders. Those are now things of the past.
Here's my newest, 1812 O.107 R1 PCGS XF40. Check out the vigorous die clashing on the reverse in the shield and fields.
They will, but for it to be in a multi coin holder it must be a dealer submitted item, and must be a bulk submission. i assume if you have a fairly large number of sets you send through your local NGC dealer it can be done.
I have seen ms61-ms63 coins just straight beat up from bag marks. this coin looks pretty good in hand
Hmm, wonder why it looks all pock marked like that? Now dont get me wrong, im not saying you have a bad coin or anything, in fact i love a good gold coin. Just trying to understand the grade on it and they arrived at said grade. Gold definitely isnt my specialty though, so im trying to do some learnin
I understand grading just fine for the most part, and maybe it's just the lighting picking up all the chatter on this one. But to me it looks like a Peace Dollar I just sent off. It's like the entire surface of your coin is pock marked and scratched, but like I said it may just be the lighting with it.
the way I photographed it with shadows, it kinda shows all the nooks and crannies. but looks great in hand I could have just shot a blurry shot. to hide marks.(kinda like your Avatar) lol
this one of mine is XF45. notice the wear on hair coming out of head band. this AU53 of mine has less wear on hair coming out of head band. some bag marks dont count until higher grades.
Look I realize this is an older coin and gold at that, but if you compare your AU-53 to my AU-58 gold $5 coin, there is a huge difference in how the fields appear for not that much grade difference, and all i want to know is how NGC justified all those chatter marks and put it into a non details holder. Thats it. Now its either one of 2 things, all those marks are really on that coin OR the lighting is picking up all the chatter like what happens sometimes and makes it APPEAR more beat up than it really is. Just a curiousity on my part and an attempt to learn more. Is it simply because NGC is more tolerant on 150+ year old coin, or what? As for my avatar, well that was a crop job from the ebay seller photos. Just something to slap up here for a picture.
first off I'm trying to defend my coin, well because its my coin. and you decided to question it. second- I dont work for NGC so anything I tell you is just a guess. third I straight think you are wrong. an AU53,AU58,MS61 ETC.. CAN have several bag marks. why ? I don't work for NGC so ask them. HERE IS ONE LAST EXAMPLE FOR YOU. This MS61 gold coin I used to own is beat up. really really bad. but still at MS61. anyways I buy coins for me.not you
as far as comparing your 1909 D $5 AU58 To my 1838 $5 AU53, its like comparing apples and oranges. first off I cant even see your coin. but your coin may have wear but no bag marks. but thats not always the case with an AU58 coin. but there is a huge difference in mintage and price. your 1909 D mintage 3,423,560 price guide $600 my 1838 mintage is 286,588 price guide $1,840
