OK, so my question is: In your opinion, did coins like the one illustrated as your avatar ever leave the mint legitimately? Or were they "stamped to order" by mint employees and smuggled out the back door or sold like all of those 19th century patterns?
IMO my avatar is probably the result of a randomly occurring mis-feed in the automatic coining press. I assume that it got out of the mint in a bag & got set-aside in a collection soon after that. I am not aware of any provenance. Of course, I have no way of knowing for certain how the coin was actually manufactured. I had never considered that it might be the work of an unscrupulous mint employee.
Well, to celebrate my 10,000th post I decided to post on Collect89's nice writeup. Like I said, I agree with his sentiments, and its been an honor to be here and sharing my hobby with ya'll. Here is a pic of both sides of my avatar. It was bought to honor my mother, and she kept adopted greyhounds. Chris
Congrates on your 5k post. I read many of them and learned right there with you. I for one am Glad your here!
Out running Doug may be easy but some of the other Mods not quite as decrepit. So here's the plan you just need a bag of change, any time one gets too close to catching up with you drop a handful (just remember to keep running rather then joining in the feeding frenzy) PS the Mods here good ppl stay in the rules and you never have an issue
That all depends, Hobo. If you had the choice between an ugly wife and a bunch of beautiful women waiting on you hand and foot, which would you take. Chris
A bit late but congrats on your 5,000th post. Keep posting away and soon you're going to reach 10,000
