Hi all... first time poster and new to CRH. I bought $1500 in halves and three boxes of nickels from my bank two weeks ago. Started with Halves, finding 6 40% JFK in box 1. Enthused (to say the least) by this early success, I tore into box 2 with frenzied abandon. Zilch! A bit demoralizing but as I had 6 in box 1, I concluded that there must be SOME silver left out there. Box 3 yielded 31 more! All 40% JFK. Holy smokes! I was able to track down a partial box ($450) from another branch and was skunked. Anyone here who has been doing this a while... Is that pretty typical? To get into a strong patch, then go bust for a spell? I also bought 3 boxes of nickels at the same time, completed them last night. Lot more work there, of course. Especially as I plan to keep nickels so I've been re-rolling them. The nickels yielded 7 war nickels and a buffalo. Encouraging enough. Going to try and attach a pic of last weekend's haul. Grabbed a box of pennies this week and just blew through them this evening while I had a movie playing. 7 wheaties and an Indian Head (first one of those I have ever even seen). All in all, I am not complaining. This all seems like a pretty good start? For the first few weeks? I have 6000 halves on order for this week, and 12000 nickels. Here's hoping that beginner's luck holds out!
Nice start! And welcome to the thread. I've only been doing this for almost 2 months now and it's been a blast. I had a similar start and quickly realized not every box is going to be a home run. But just like the others on the board have stated in many previous posts volume and persistence is key. welcome and look forward to hearing about what you find.
I can't speak for the halves since I only get them from teller drawers but for your nickels and cents you did decent. I've gone through 24 boxes of nickels and have only found 13 wars and 4 Bufs. Out of 35 boxes of cents I have found 1022 wheats and not a single IH. I would take that IH any day of the week.
Here's a pic of the indian head. As I said, I don't recall ever having even seen one before. What a thrill coming across it. I also went through a box of dimes and came up with a single 90% also pictured.
