Here is a few more pics,,got this 1994 D,,roll picking along with a War nickel 1st roll I opened today...Tod

 

The Edge is smooth and round,,not ruff as it would be if it were ran over.Tod

 

almost looks like a lamination error but I don't think that applies to nickels but it does look more like a planchette issue rather then post mint damage.

 

I get OBW Rolls of 50's,6o's I see cracks around rims here and there but not like this Cir Coin I picked from a Safeway Roll,,,with Text up on a part of the coin where it is always flat,,this is raised up and cracked to the rim but yet the outer rim is smooth and rounded instead of the common flat smooth outer surface of the rim a nickel has.Tod

 

I think you should hang on to this one and look further into finding out what has happened. Looks like "liberty" was applied on a cud.

 

I would normally say PMD here, and I'm no expert, but on the reverse, where the word "States of America" on the bottom, seems as tho the rim is not folded down on the word in any way. Almost as if there is a flat cud like piece of coin partially covering the words. You can see a gap between the lettering and the covering piece of scrap.
It's like a tri-hybrid of PMD, Lamination, and Cuds. hahaha I don't know what to conclude about this coin. Take what I said with a grain of salt, and not as an answer.

 

The coin is heavily damaged. The edge is rounded and a thin apron of metal has been relocated from the edge and rim to the obverse periphery. You see this effect in "dryer coins" although this is not apparently a dryer coin. Regardless, it's post-strike damage.

 

Besides PMD, that was struck with a greatly deteriorated die. That's what I see.

 

Thanks for all the post over the coin,,,Its not the rim over or folded over the letters the letters are all there some of which is on top of the crack and raised part of the coin,,someone must know,,guess it may be worth some cash being that most think it is a Error and can not put there finger on just what happen,,cool..Please anyone that know for sure or can figure it out please post?Thanks Tod

 

In my opinion, it's just damage created after it was minted.

 

It is more important to realize that the coin is simply damaged than to try and figure out exactly what damaged it. You will save time and energy just getting rid of is one and moving on.
I can't see this coin bringing any cash because it is damaged.

Ok so far only a few may understand what they are looking at,,,16D seems to me to be the one who is right,,,for sure it is not damaged after the minting 100% not after the mint,,Thanks Tod

 

I'm sorry to break it to you, but your coin is simply damaged. I have seen similar effects before on coins. Even Mike Diamond (one of the foremost error experts in the nation) said it is damaged. You can believe that your coin is whatever error you like, but you are getting feedback from very knowledgable members saying you just have a damaged coin.

 

Bummer nobody really knows yet..

Relax read all the posts, nobody has said for sure one way or the other that matters,

 

I'm relaxed I'm just saying some of the experts on here said its pmd but to don't like the answer so you want another.

 

I'm a bit lost myself now. What type of answer are you looking for? You said the answer you thought was closet was the die deterioration, and I even know myself as a new collector; Die Deterioration is NOT sought after, or anything valuable. Non cents is correct, this coin is very damaged. If this coin was a high grade, fresh and not all dinked up, and still had a similar rim error, then maybe you may have something.
Just for that 1 small chance, I also checked The Cud Book I have by Sam Thurman and Arnold Margolis(Reputable is their middle name), and nothing was shown like your coin.
