hey everyone i purchased a S-minted silver eagle 2013 ms70. when i received the coin i saw that there was a mark on the reverse side of it and ms70 is supposed to be perfect. should this marking make the coin not ms70? obviously this is an opinion question but i want to know what the more experience collectors think since i am not so experienced yet. if most think its not ms70 then im calling the customer service and getting another coin if they are still available. the mark is between the eagle's wing and "of America" thanks in advance pat
An S'less 'S'? What did you pay for this one PJ? I don't know what that mark is but I had one like it on one of my coins in the 2011 anniversary sets. Sold that one. That coin would probably get nicked at PCGS or NGC......
The grade of 70 does not mean a coin is perfect; it merely means that it met the minimum proprietary grading requirements for that grading service to obtain the 70 grade.
Tom B is correct but I think it would be a deterent when you try and sell it; regardless of the TPG's standards. Try and explain that to the next buyer. A follow up to green18's thoughts. Buy the coin in a PCGS or NGC slab to begin with. I would return this one if you have the option.

If you want an accurate grade then only go with ngc and pcgs. Moral of the story is to buy the coin not the slab.
Umm, do you realize that your second sentence completely contradicts the first?! If the coin is good, who cares whose slab it's in? I fully agree with your second sentence. Problem is, it completely contradicts your first one.
But at least it's not contradicted by any of the other three lol... and it's called restating a point for sake of emphasis.
Just a dumb question, but why do the San Francisco eagles not have the "S" mint mark? I would think that would be a premium for collectors.
Bullion coins aren't mintmarked. There were ASE's struck with an S mintmark in 2011. They were included in the anniversary set.
Like DT stated above, these are bullion coins and, as such, do not carry an mint mark. The collector coins all carry the mint marks from the various mints. Back (two years ago?) the powers that be decided to employ the San Fran facility in order to keep up with the high demand for the bullion eagles and there have been more than a few threads started on this site showing the difference (or tying to) between the San Fran ("S" less) and West Point ("W" less) bullion coins using certain diagnostics and pick up points. These tired old eyes could never discern the difference and always relied on honking, huge, reliable mint marks to tell the difference.
