I am having the hardest time opening up air-tites. I am trying to open the ones with the insert. Any special tricks or tips short of cracking it?
If you have a really tiny flathead screwdriver, you can get that in between and pry the two sides aparts. Thats the only thing thats worked for me.
There is a variety of airtite that has an indentation on the edge to make opening it easier. Absent that, I use a plastic ruler and just apply pressure to the edge of the airtite to pop it open.
Man, this guys are so tight, that on most them, I can't even find the crease/lip. Thanks for the input fellas. Except for you cazka, and John!
I have had the best luck using a knife blade. A really good and sharp one. The thin blade easily finds the seem, once the seem is found, wedge the blade back and forth, once the air tite opens up, continue going around the edge.
A box cutter is the easiest way since the handle is large and you can control the length of the blade. On some airtites you can open it on the first try. If its too tight go around the airtite a few times to loosen it up.
