I have bought half's twice now. 2 rolls at a credit union, 1 of them BWR, the other CWR marked "1970's". $10 loose at a small bank branch in Walmart.
Both times I got a marked coin and the tellers smiled when I asked for half's.
    0 silver.
    My conclusion.
They knew about silver half hunters. The 2 banks are someone(s) dump bank(s).

These are just test rolls. In a month or so, I plan to give this a real try at my credit union.

You will need to puchase several $500 boxes of halfs before you will stumble upon a small horde, dont get me wrong you can make a good buck but it also requires alot of work and is the reason i currently have given it up.....

Some do, some don't, and some don't care. I found 100oz of silver in January, it's still out there, but like Matthew said, it's hard work.

You end up spending a lot of time getting the hairy eyeball because your dumping $1500 worth of halves into the coin counter.......

Lol I've gone through a couple thousand dollarse worth of halves and not found 1 silver one. Gotta try a little harder than that. And yes some tellers know. I'm a bank teller and i know about it, but that doesn't mean i can open up rolls from the fed take out the silver and put them back in a roll.

I don't use coin counters, I have bag service, and drop off $4k-$6k at a time. Carry in bags, carry out cash.

    Fade,
I requested bag service this week and they told me they could not do that for me. They said I had to use their coin counter. They are constantly having to change out bags for me, which I know frustrates them. I would increase my volume if I could have bag service. It would be much easier for me and them. Not sure why they can't do it

How do you go about getting bag service, and do they give you cash on the spot when you take them in or is it credited to your account once the courier picks them up and counts them. If they give you cash on the spot, how do they know the exact amount with out running it thru a counter or by weighing it?

I bothered them for three years about it before they finally were able to escalate things to the district operations manager and hook me up with my service.

I basically drop the bags off, they do some back room stuff in terms of tracking the serial numbers on the bags, I deposit them into my account as "cash" and immediately after, withdrawal it. Takes about 3 minutes. The courier (Garda) weighs the bags, and only counts them if they're off. If the bag is over/under, it is credited/debited from my account by the head teller the next day.

I guess I'll keep on them about it. I may ask one of my other banks this week also. I appreciate it. You got a good system working for you! You work hard and it is surely paying off!

Suprisingly, my bank teller knows, and she actually did research on it herself, and Its apparent, shes willing to give me the rarer coins then keep it for herself. Am I that charming?

I asked around at a few banks before, nobody else is willing to do it but them. Everybody else wants it rolled or they want to wait for it to be verified then I'll get the money. I think WF will do it for cash, but they charge $4/bag or something. 0.4% isn't bad though, way cheaper than CoinStar or something and less work to boot!

Yeah, sure is. I know they're gonna cut me off sooner or later, though... just a matter of time and a matter of getting it in while I can, ya know? I'm trying to expand my bankroll to where I could dump 5 days a week, $4k a time. That would keep me under the $10k patriot act reporting provision, which is why they have closed the other big hunters' accounts. I would need $12k to do that.

I would think they might make an issue of it sometime, cause i'm sure its costing them a decent amount to ship it all out. Keep at it while the gettin is good! You are on a roll here lately.

I told the head teller if she starts to hear anything about them cutting me off, I'll pay fees, I don't care... this is way too easy to give up without a fight.

Actually, nice quote but I am serious. You scored over 3 grand from silver in January, and you can easily sell bags of coins to banks.

In what world does $3k a month make me super rich? I'd like to move there ASAP.

I only get about 50 bucks a month. At max.

I'm guessing you're a kid. I'm an adult with bills. I pay $1k a month in rent, $100 for my cable bill, $55 for my energy bill, $125 for my cell phone, $100 for my car insurance, $350 in student loans, $250 in gas, $100 into my health insurance account, $300 into my retirment accounts, $400 in food, $100 in alcohol, you get the idea... $3k a month doesn't make you rich, $3k a month means you're getting by... just barely.

Thats offensive. Im not a kid, im 6 years old already! JK now im way older, im just an amateur coin collector. 3k is a decent lump sum of cash, unless ofcourse thats your job basically. If its not, 3k added to my paycheck,, Ill take anyday.
