Does anyone know if their is any collector value for the older Whitman albums? I believe they started in 1938 or 1939. I have a few that are dated 1940 and 1949. A few have cover damage and notations inside, other than that they appear to be unused. Just curious.
I've found a few older albums on eBay. Some have a hefty premium to em. You can type in "vintage coin albums" or "old coin albums" in your search just to get an idea of what people are willing to pay. I stopped buying old albums on eBay. A member of my coin club collects them and he said it's important to smell them before you buy. Some have a musky, mold smell because they had gotten damp sometime.
It really boils down to the rarity of the particular album. For example, albums that are the Library of Coins: LOC Jeffersons, Roosevelt are very common and do not get a premium. Then you have the more scarce LOC's like the type sets, which can fetch a pretty penny. This is the same thing with Whitman bookshelf albums. Obviously condition is important. The Wayte Raymond or gehrig coin board are always desirable, from what I have seen.
i have 4 of the wayte raymold holders for dimes. they are loaded with nice silver roosies. waiting to see what happens over time
I have several 1938 black Whitman coin boards. They are collectible. A couple with some coins in them, I have framed with 11X17 picture frames. You can hang them on the wall and they look very nice.
