Just curious how members of this forum feel about posting the same coin in various threads.

    Here is the scenario:
You just acquired a sweet toned Buffalo Nickel and you want to proudly display your new coin and ninja photo skills.
However, you don't want to feel like a spammer, or a "show off".

    Where do you post it?

    • "New Acquisition" thread?
    • "Post a toned coin" thread?
    • "Let's see some Buffalo's" thread?

Do you think it is ridiculous to post it in all three threads?
I personally think it's ok to put it in any related thread since the same members probably aren't subscribed to all of the threads.
How do ya'll feel about this?

I don't mean hijacking threads with your 10 million dollar coin either. I am specifically referring to threads created to solicit postings of a coin.

Maybe all three, but spaced out a bit so as not to monopolize the "recent threads" list? Nearly all my thread-browsing is through recent threads, with a little bit coming out of my browser history, and only a tiny amount from searches.

Personally, I would post it to the most relavent thread. It doesn't mean you cannot post again in the future, I just think one new coin posted in multiple "please post X" threads would be overkill.

I have some coins I have posted maybe 5 times since I have been on CT, but only posted them one time when I got it, the other times were later when a question about a coin like that came up, or I was discussing a point related to it.

    Just my opinion.

    Chris

Btw, its fun to be excited about a new acquisition, no? :)

Good point Jeff. Recent threads is also my go to reading.

if it fits post it. it might make for some wasted time but others may find it and have something more to say.

Myself, it changes coin to coin but since I take the time to get the good pic i tend to avoid the "new acquisitions" thread as it gets little to no attention/comments posted there. I prefer to start a new thread where I can give at least a little of the coins back story and get comments/opinions/info that is seldom posted the the "New Acq" thread. I might also post it to a specific thread like "62 days a large cents" but I try to keep it to a max of 2 threads. If a 3 thread really applies I am more likely to "link" to the original rather then upload the pictures again taking up server space.

I can hack 2 in a relatively short period of time, but 3 at once is just a bit much. On the other hand, I have probably posted the same coin in 5 or 6 different threads over the years, but they have been well spaced in time.

I've started a new thread sporting my newest acquisition and later posted it in the 'Newest Acquisition' thread. Anything more than that and you're just 275px-NCI_clove_ham.jpg ing it up............

Listen, I am just glad this forum is talking about coins again. My curiosity is what prompted you to post this thread. Did someone complain?

    Not at all Paul.
I always feel like a ham though if I post a new toned Barber in various threads.
I always worry that Log Potato won't get to see it! :rollling:

You could also create a new thread for new-toned-buffalo coins. (EDIT I see now that there is actually a poll & this is one of the options).

Perhaps it is obvious but I like to post photos & want to encourage others to post pics. I would say post it where it fits in one, two, or three places. Three & up may be a little much unless there is some time between the posts.

I voted post it in all threads. I don't mind seeing it more than once!

I'm a "post all related" guy too. The point of this site is to talk about and show off coins, right? Well if you're gonna post it only once, especially in a thread that gets a ton of activity that I don't have time to go through all the back history, I'm gonna miss it and be bummed. Besides, something of beauty is worth seeing and drooling over again and again. You don't want to see it again? Then that's what the little scroll-y-wheel on your mouse is for... ;)

If it's an ugly coin, once is enough.

If it's a pretty coin like some of you have I'm pleased to see it a couple of dozen times...:D...errr, uugghhh, WL, Robec....

If the coin is special and interesting enough to warrant a new thread, I post it. If not it goes quietly into my collection. I feel that things just get lost in the New Acquisitions threads.

post it everywhere you think it's relevant. not all of us read all of those different threads so if you want to show your coin off to as many people as possible, post it everywhere. if some people that do read all of the threads have a problem seeing the same coin a few times, they should chill a bit :)

Uhhhh - hate to tell ya this, but we frown on posting the same thing in multiple threads. And if we find it, we will combine them all into 1 thread.

And for the record, we get complaints about people posting the same coin in multiple threads all the time.

Now if you make a new thread about a coin you posted a month ago, a year ago, or whatever, we have no problem with that at all.

But if you start multiple threads of the same topic the same day, or within a few days, yeah, we have a problem with that.

Dougie fresh, no one is talking about starting multiple threads.

I'm talking about posting a coin to existing threads that are relevant to said coin.
