I have got a few peace dollars, around 20 silver quarters, 10 war nickels, 10 dimes, 5 Kennedy 90% and around 30 Kennedy 40%.. I got an Eisenhower $1 also but I don't think it has any silver in it. Can anyone recommend me to someone that buys em online or locally?
I'd recommend our very ownest BST http://www.cointalk.com/f61/ - you sell directly to other collectors and have the possibility of getting a better price sense you are not selling to someone that is buying just to turn it over and sell it to somebody else. You can look on Coinflation.com for melt prices and start there.
I would warn everybody here about doing business with forum members that have no real history here... what's to stop someone from setting up an account, claim they have a roll of silver quarters to sell, take your money and mail you nothing?
Fade's got a point... People can generally do whatever they want and scam you. I only buy from people who are experienced, have made their mark on this website, and who are reputable. Never from newbies.
Paying by paypal using the method you're supposed to which is non gift purchase>goods would offer you protection for not receiving an item. Although I would still be wary dealing with someone who joins the forum and immediately starts selling things versus making some posts on the forum first.
PayPal paying as GIFT is a big time no-no. It gives the buyer absolutely no protection. I move a lot of different things on RC racing threads, and it amazes me how often people want paid as gifts.
I think it is pretty easy to figure out who are regulars here and who are not quite so well known. Never hurts to ask for references too. We have sellers here that I have been buying from for years.
Kansasman, Hi. Is there a reason you have ruled out simply walking into a coin store and selling the coins there?
Sorry I have not had the time to reply as I have been extremely busy with the kids. Currently I do not have a computer scanner to show you the coins and figured it was best to respond when I was able to publish them. Yes, I do plan on buying one shortly at Walmart. I'm not really comfortable using PayPal or any form of payment on the internet. I would prefer to make a deal online however meet in person like at a local bank or post office where we could exchange cash for silver coins. We live in Southern Kansas near the Oklahoma/Missouri border so if anyone is close that would be the best and probably only option. We actually don't have a coin store locally or at least not within a few hours drive to the best of my knowledge. I also don't think there is enough value here to drive across the state and consuming more fuel then what they probably worth. So if your concerned about me defrauding you in any form I wouldn't worry about that as it would need to be face to face. I don't have any references and found this message board on the internet searching for coins one day. I hope that helps answer your questions and shame on your for accusing me of such.
its a pretty tough crowd round these parts, try posting that you found a 1965 silver quarter and see what happens! ha ha ha
I've never sold or bought on e-bay so I can't comment on that. I have bought and sold through craigslist and have found that I can get a higher $ amount compared to my local coin shops. Also, no shipping or credit card fees. Just be careful when meeting strangers.
I've sold a few on ebay and usually get a little over melt per coin in auction format on coins very well worn. Better coins have realized a slightly better price. Seller fees suck but it's better than prices at the pawn or coin shops and they always sell. I'm still nervous when using ebay because of scammers.
RELAX! I don't think anybody is accusing you of anything. What you got was a standard warning, given to anybody who posts a buy or sell solicitation anywhere on the internet (or elsewhere, for that matter). I don't deal through the Buy-Sell-Trade section of this (or any forum), but there instances where scams have been used to defraud a fellow member out of cash or coins. You run the same risk through eBay, but do have a little better protection. What you propose is fine. I'm not sure how many members live in your particular area (I do not). My suggestion, if you're looking to sell locally, is to use either Craig's List, or an ad in your local newspaper. This would expose your goods to more interested local people than what you may find here. The same warning applies! Use a public place to meet and exchange. This is more for your protection than protecting a prospective buyer from you.
