Caz - I think you meant the left side? I don't think it adds any value unless it's at least 25% out of alignment. Check out "Misaligned Digit" on this page: http://www.panix.com/~clay/currency/glossary.html With a ruler, it looks like the 3s may be a little high, which makes the 8 look low?
I think you did good on your purchase but I dont believe you will see any premium for the very slight differnce in alignment. You need the turned or stuck digit to really stick out to see a premium. A turned or stuck prefix would see even more premium. For my newest purchase - I needed a $2 * for my serial 66 collection and I now have it:
And it is from the 6th district!!! That what's gets me really excited... Sad but true... my intentions are to eventually have a small size $1 - $100 denomination set with stars, all 66 serial, all from the 6th district and preferably graded 66...
Pardon me. I am still learning my Sides. Tomorrow I work on the difference between right and left Thanks for the comments guys. I'm still happy for $7.
Thanks for all the encouragement! Regardless of the district I still like them all. I just received this $1 G/H from a friend who bought it in a lot sold at the recent FUN auction. It should grade well...
Just ordered this note. It hasn't shipped yet, but I am very excited. My first FRBN error note. I was able to tell that this is a legitimate error and not a wash because of the varying black print. One could theoretically lighten the ink in specific areas corresponding to the 4th printing by using an eraser in those areas. There was some question by the seller about its legitimacy. But I can authenticate it in this way: If you look closely at the bottom where the black bars are supposed to cover the words Cashier and President, you'll notice that those words are still dark while the black bars are faded. The words Cashier and President are part of the 3rd print. If someone tried to tamper with the ink by localized washing/erasing, both the words and the bars over it would be faded as well.
Where the left signature dips into the second printing, the ink is pristine - there is no other area of the third print where the ink is solid for such a great area. I would be incredibly suspect. I do like that DGS KC $10, Kansas City is the one note of my 1934 $10 LGS collection I think I want to upgrade, it's a low VF and it's condition just doesn't match the high VF-AU of the other notes... eBay bucks are like Christmas! Wish I had a note to post... I miss this thread... only note I got in was an oops note that I misread the description and bid on. At least it was only $10 over face... got some notes in the mail but I am going through new arrival withdrawals...
Mec2, with all due respect, i hope you are wrong and its just the darker color behind the loop of the signature that makes it look that way. ill know for sure when it arrives. good thing is i didnt pay a whole lot more than the market value of this note.
Funkee - I ain't due much respect, I assure you... I *finally* got a couple notes in. So far this is the year of the underbidder, I am missing on auctions left and right. Can't complain, last year was great - wait, yes I can complain. Here's one I've been waiting on for a while, and as with many of my Greek and Egyptian notes, it's the reverse that is the eye catcher, and this Five Egyptian Pound note is no different. I actually find the front quite nice both with Tut's image and the grand Ali mosque but it's the fantastic reverse that makes this note such a keeper, the statue representation of the Nile River god, which is actually at the Vatican. When I was a young man, I never thought I'd see, people stand in line, to see the boy king...
Hey Bonni - I think that is a 1958 signature combination on that note. Here's the other one I got in, it's the first designs after they went to the Central Bank of Egypt from the National Bank of Egypt, I just think the engraving and color are really nice. The back isn't as elegant or historically attractive, but still a decent design...
My newest arrivals are a little different but IMO very cool. These are scrip that were used at the 101 Miller Brothers Ranch (Wild West Show) that was a very popular attraction in Oklahoma from around 1920-1930. This is a full set and the first time I have seen the $50 in person... I live in Oklahoma and these sell very high around here and I had yet to find any, much less a set that I was willing to pay for. Sniped these on Ebay one at a time and had to pay a little over $100 total and I am very happy with them!!! To bad they aren't all 66 serials...lol
