Hi all, I bought a set of two 2012 Sacagawea Native American dollars on ebay for a decent price with free shipping. When they first arrived, I noticed that both of the coins had bad scratches on both the obverse and reverse. I contacted the seller about it, and he told me to return them to him and he'd replace them. Well, the new ones arrived yesterday, and they are just as bad as the first ones that he sent to me. In fact, one of them is even worse...it has two large, deep scratches on the face of the indian on the obverse. These scratches are worse than just bag marks. Should I just leave negative feedback now and end the transaction? If no, how many chances should this seller have to make it right? Although the original sale had no shipping charges, I did pay to have them returned. I am not too inclined to continue paying shipping charges until this guy decides to get it right. What would you do? The seller has over 7000 feedback, 100% positive. Thanks! -StephenS
Did the listing say anything about the coin you receive may be different than the picture? How good were the pics in the listing?
Tell him that you gave him a second chance to fix it, but you're not satisfied due to damage on the coins and you're returning them for a refund. If he refuses, use buyer protection and report him etc.
He just uses a stock photo for the listing. Here's the description he used: You are buying One (1) two coin set of the Brilliant Uncirculated Native American Dollar, which consists of 1 2012-P and 1 2012-D, enclosed in 2x2 coin holders. These coins come from the US Mint Uncirculated Coin Set. All our coins are carefully handled with cotton gloves and are not picked over.
If the seller pulled them from the UNC Set, no chance of scratches like you're describing. I'm looking at mine right now as I type this, and there's no marks whatsoever. If he did indeed take them from the sets, he cut them up wrong. My guess is he bought them by the bag, and he's dishing them out like that. Get your money back.
I did use paypal for this transaction, but I've never had to use buyer protectiong to recoup costs. Would that cover the shipping charges for me returning the first set of coins as well as the second set of coins? Or would it just cover the cost of the coins themselves?
Use buyer protection. I haven't had to use it before, so I can't help you there. I avoid buyers using stock photos. I like to see what I am getting.
Good advice! Come to think of it, I don't believe that I've ever bought anything whose listing was a stock photo before.
