Odd Mark 1970 Nickel

    Hello Everyone,

    I was rummaging through some change tonight and came across this nickel. On the reverse in the middle of the memorial is an odd circle punched into the coin. I was just curious if this was damage done to the coin after it was minted or not.

    Yes, it is post-mint damage. Some coin banks stored coins in a tube-like device with one end that screwed down to hold the coins. The screw end often damaged the end coins like yours.

    Yes, thanks Hobo, I have seen some sad cases exactly like this on many nickels in the old roll search days and in change.
