No, it is not. This type of toning is quite common on Morgans. There are thousands of examples like it from storage in bags. It is a nice coin, worthy of a premium, but not even close to unique.
Again, you are showing your lack of experience. The toning market has actually taken a few steps back in the past few years. It was at its peak in 2006-ish.
Right? Wasn't it nice to have a youngsters zeal, even if misplaced at moments, around here? Coin collecting some times is too much an old man hobby. I appreciated the energy he committed. Tim will learn what he doesn't know soon enough. That is when you are really knowledgable in numismatics, when you realize how little you REALLY know, (may have stolen that line from Doug recently, but its an old saying).
I'll take Tims place (for the fun of it, and for this thread only) But if the PCGS price guide Bible says that a coin is worth $30, the coin is worth $30. If you want to spend extra money for a coin with toning, otherwise known as surface corrosion, go ahead. You are wastng your money. You should make yourself aware of what the price guide says and pay ONLY that price if you want to be an educated collector.
I'm sure I'll get some hate here but Defecto being banned is no loss to CoinTalk. His posts were more quantity than quality. Always spouting about things he knew nothing of and never listening to member advice about buying books and doing research before buying coins. He always wanted others to do the work for him. If my post offends others oh well.
It doesn't offend me in the least. I will say that I don't understand the affinity that many members of this forum have towards Detecto. I remember when BNB showed up on the coin forums and almost everybody hated him and wanted him banned. Yet BNB was far more knowledgeable about coins and infinitely more entertaining. The hypocrisy is unbelievable.
BNB was more knowledgable? Remember the '3-legged Buffalo' debacle? From an NGC slab, to NCS, AFTER a print was pointed out to him AFTER he had it in hand (didn't even notice it, himself), then sold RAW as an UNC on ebay after he cracked it, and attempted to get rid of the print himself? He did the same thing Detecto does...starts by asking a multitude of questions, but acts like he knows what he's talking about.
BNB was banned in January 2010, you joined this forum in January 2011. I remember the episode well, it played out on multiple forums. IMO, as someone who was a core member during both tenures, BNB had a much better understanding of Numismatics than Detecto.
