A couple of months ago I bought this Propaganda note off eBay for what I think is a really good price. One sold last summer on eBay for around $1200. The only difference I could tell was the higher selling note was listed from the U.S. and offered worldwide shipping. A guy from Malaysia just bought a note from me on eBay and looked through my feedback and saw that I bought this note. He is now offering to buy it. His first offer is alittle over 2x what I paid. This note is scarce and hard to find. I want to keep it in my WWII propaganda collection. Now the question which I know is hard for others answer for my case. If you were in this situation would you sell and what would be your number?
I only paid a 10th of the price the other one sold for. So I think I was letting the potential profit get to me.
You already know how scarce genuine pieces are. If it were my note and I was willing to part with it Ebay would not be the place. One of the reasons that you probably got this note for the price you did is the fact that Ebay is rampant with copies of this type of material. As an example, all of the Grim Memories Malaya overprints that are currently listed (most from a seller in Pakistan) are fakes. I note you and only one other person bid on this item. I am not saying that this piece is fake. Since I have not seen it in person I could not make that conclusion. My point is that the Ebay prices for even genuine items is suppressed because of the fakes out there. If I were in your shoes and wanted to sell it, I would have someone like Joe Boling authenticate it and consign it to one of the auction houses (Lyn Knight, Heritage, etc.) I would then tell the interested buyer where he can bid on it. There are enough people out there who would want this note that I would expect it to go for more than he is offering.
I wasn't looking to sell the note. This guy won a eBay auction I had listed and saw that I had bought this peice. He then extended and offer to buy. I all ready told him I will not sell the note. Based off the info on psyworrior.com and Joe Boling book WWII Remembered i beleive it is authintic. I did check it under magnification and doesn't look to be a laser or ink jet printed note (not say that alown means it is authentic). That would be cool if I could get Joe Boling to authinticate the note. I wonder if sent an email into the editor of the mpcgram if they could supply some for info. Its worth a try.
