I was wondering how much I should spend on getting this Morgan silver dollar. What's a good buy it now price?
Did the seller give any details on it? Personally, I'd say no more than $30, but I'm not super experienced with dollars. The yellow tint in the hairline throws me a bit as well, doesn't seem like toning, but again, i could be wrong.
The seller wants 34 dollars for bidding. I don't think I'm going to buy this coin. A little too much if it's ungraded.
The picture is a bit blurry so its hard to tell the condition so I would say its around a MS63. The yellow should be toning as the rim on both the obverse and reverse is toned. A normal uncirculated MS63 1878-S Morgan sells within a range from $35 to $45.
I don't think it's toning at all, I think it's dirt or some kind of funk. The fact remains that it is an 1878 in at least AU condition so I think it's worth $30 to $35 dollars. If you want the coin Morgancoin, buy it.
I used to break morgans out of those plaque displays and they'd have a yellowish tint to them just like this one once you pulled the glue off of them.
Actually, the opening bid of $34 is quite fair. You're not going to get quality Morgans at melt. Especially for this date. I agree with the AU grade. If you look around, you'll be able to get uncirculated common dates in this price range, so maybe look around a bit.
You might want to check out a coin shop in your area. I've bid on morgans online, never got one. Always got a better deal at the shop on Morgan's. Tough to tell what is going on with obverse.
