Although I would never but coins from a TV show, I always look forward to watching them. I commented a few weeks ago about how HSN was selling slabbed 2013 ASE’s on New Year’s Eve and using 2012 and 2010 ASE’s inside the slabbed ANACS MS70,I thought that was amusing. I watch another show on ShopNBC and they were also selling slabbed MS70 2013 ASE’s, but they were showing a 2012 slabbed, but repeated upfront that these are not 2013, but have gotten back a preliminary report from NGC on how many MS70’s they have so far. I totally accept this method vs. HSN’s method. What really had me laughing (out loud) and my wife telling me I am such a geek, is the ShopNBC guys were ripping into the “other network’s methods of selling slabbed MS70 2013 ASE’s and acting as if they had them in hand and they went on to rip them for selling that way, hiding the date on the screen and using a less inferior TPG (ANACS), they said we don’t have the slabbed MS70’s in hand, but they are shipping out soon, they did have a full monster box of 2013’s they opened on air. They also said, we get ours graded by a more reputable TPG, NGC. I was laughing so hard at how they were ripping the other network, I thought I was the only one who noticed the HSN method. I just thought this can only be appreciated by fellow coin collectors and watchers of these shows. Anyone else see this?
I have all the home shopping channels removed from our TiVo... maybe i should add them back in for some laughs???
I think they are funny they way they jab at each other. I like HSN becuase it is in HD and some of the things he says are a riot as far "Please understand", "Red Oak Presentation Box" and "I guarantee I will not be able to sell you this next time for this low price" I like ShopNBC because they do not sell the statehood quarters and they offer different coins other than those found on HSN (Quarters, ASE and those El Cazadors)
I love when Mike Mezak characterizes paying 4x the price of silver for an ANACS graded piece of bullion as a "terrific buying opportunity" :headbang: ... and the fact that hundreds or thousands of people still fall for his shtick, especially those in the "older demographic" with little to no disposable income who think they are leaving a fortune to their family with the garbage he sells. I do think ShopNBC guys are a tad more transparent, but when I see them selling common date MS-63 morgans for over $100 or so, it kinda makes that extra transparency a moot point bc they are still ripping people off. I wish I could just scream out RED BOOK to those people pouring their retirements into these money pits. /endrant
When I used to have satellite, I'd watch those clowns on The Coin Vault. You can easily make a drinking game out of these shows with their catch phrases and what not. But the main reason I would watch them, is that there really isn't any numismatic shows on the tube! I love hearing about the newest coins, old favorites, different sets, etc.. and it's sad that the only way to see such a show on the TV is these coin info-commercials.
I had to stop my wife from buying me a "once in a lifetime opportunity" of the State Quarters and the rest in the "premium display case." She was trying to be sweet, but I had to tell her that those shows rip off those that watch them... I then showed her where to find coins at a good price that were legit. Come to think of it, she almost bought the "rare" 1999 SBA
Yea, rare and worth $75 just by itself, when he sells the SBA set. Too bad he's using Littleton's catalog as his "number #1 national retailer trusted source for 50 years" as a reference LOL ... you can tell I've seen the show probably 100 times back when I was into the state quarters big, thankfully I never pulled the trigger on his ripoffs, just once with ShopNBC on some proof sets, boy that was a while ago and I have learned so much since then. I was so naive back then and to think people even more naive than I was are being lied to by HSN. I can't believe he hasn't been at least investigated by consumer agencies or he has and I've never seen anything on here about it.
Now that, that was hilarious! Yeah, it's a horrid place, and I hate living anywhere near it. Military kinda makes my living choices hard though.
I agree, they are the only source to watch coins on TV, I used Youtube once in a while, but the quality of videos is not very good, both viewing quality and content. What channel does the coin vault come on? is that in the midwest or west coast? I am in the east coast and can only see HSN and ShopNBC
What do you consider quality videos on youtube? There are more coin channels that I can remember right now and several of them are posters here.
I only was able to watch coinvault when I was in San Antonio, since moving to Washington, I've never found it on any channel. Not the answer you were looking for I know, but giving what I know.
I avoid watching these shows the same as I avoid contact with folks who have some type of contagious disease as I know that both situations are just gonna make me sick. If I really want entertainment that makes me sick, I'll drink the entire bottle of Merlot on my own.
