Wow! And all in the hands of speculators. Shades of the '50-D Jefferson nickel. Only, today, we have the internet and know that these danged things ain't really rare at all.

Not rare, but, low mintage (similar to proofs) and in the hands of very few. Many will stay in rolls & bags, so even less available for filling holes.

    Exciting, isn't it?

Actually not the lowest mintage since 1932. The 2010 Satins sold only in the 2010 mint set would be the lowest at around 580k. But, that S mint mark apparently creates more demand from collectors.

I think once the initial speculative hype dies down these won't be selling for that good a premium anymore. We've all heard the 'smoke if you got em', I think right now is sell if you got em; before the premiums dissipate which they will imo.

Maybe, but then, they have the potential to sell for more than the 1996w dime with similar mintage. What's that sell for in the lowest grade, $10 to $20 each?

Take a look at how many are available on eBay (10 to 20 ads for each design). That's very few available for sale compared to say the 2011 25th ASE set with similar distribution which had over 400 ads on eBay. These quarters may just sit in rolll & bags, making few availble to collectors to fill holes.

i agree the coins are in hands of few (23000 to 26000 collectors) unless they break up the bags or rolls. the satin mint sets could be in hands of 500k collectors.

Probably fewer than that, since 23k to 26k are the number of rolls & bags sold for each quarter and probably many collectors bought more than one of each, not to mention the big guys that may have bought 100's or 1,000's of each.

Plus all of them that have already been plasticized by NGC and PCGS for the national retailers and the grading gamblers out there cuts the availability down too. However if no one wants them after those album holes are filled at whatever the price then the market price tumbles too. Look at the 99 silvers after the gamblers stopped trying to get the in demand 70 grade quarters for huge profit the prices went from $450 to $100 with wholesalers going as low as $85/90 just to move them.

Yeah, I don’t play that game – I’m more concerned about what the majority of the average ungraded coins will sell for. I’ll cherrypick the higher grades and get them graded later, if their value warrants it.

If you check the site closer you will see that 3 out of 5 rolls and all the bags of S mint ATB's have sold out. Forget what they may or may not sell for in the future, these are going to be keys no matter how you look at it.

  18. I am surprised that the Acadia and Denali S rolls are still available after all the hype. BTW: Many online dealers are selling individual S mint ATB quarters, so these will be dispersed to collectors who want them...plenty to go around. TC

Ordered a roll of each after the article and got a shipping notice yesterday. I meant to keep up but got involved in too many Eagle freenzies and had to throw myself on my wallet before it exploded. I have El Yunque and will get a single of the other two just to fill holes.

Agreed, especially on Denali. I would bet that Denali will be the lowest final mintage since those were made last and the mint knew by that point that demand wasn't as strong as they had hoped.
