Nice Brooch! I had the coin below many years ago and sold it on before I realised what it was.

It is a Transportation Love token, created using a ground down penny from about 1806 and left behind by someone being transported to the colonies (Australia) so that his family or girlfriend did not forget him. It reads: "When this you see remember me. Sear me in your mind. Let all the world say what they will. Speak of me as you find. Robert Boom 1827" It went to Australia in 2005 - I hope to some descendent of Robert.

    Great piece, but over priced.

Very neat piece, too bad it is gone

I love that old historic coin Paddy. If it could only speak...but I suppose it is with its message from Robert. Thanks for posting it.

I would love to be able to hold onto every coin I handle, but I need to raise funds for my core collection, so off topic items have to move on. At least until I win on the lottery!

This hobby is so addictive - maybe we should form "Coin Collectors Anonymous" to help those who need to quit the habit?

    I don't have a problem, I can quit anytime.

    Awesome piece you had Paddy.
