Cool deal man. I actually saw this coin in the lot so bid knowing its a rarer coin. Still, I could justify the lot without it in it, so I did ok.

$3? Try sitting on a ton of silver quarters bought for $.75. :D Eh, all of us "old timers" have the same story, lol.

Edit: Btw, I think you see this a lot in 19th century coins, P mint coins being more available that you would think by their mintages. Collecting by mintmark did not really start until later, and most coin collectors were on the east coast, so all Philly issues had a certain amount saved regardless of mintage. This is why raw mintage numbers are a start, but not the answer to a collector of the period. Even that 69 S quarter I have, in lower grades the much lower mintage Philly 69 is more expensive, but move up into AU/BU and the S is much rarer. The collectors of the day simply saved the 69 close to them, so more BU 69 (P) exist than the higher mintage 69 S's.

Sitting on a bunch of quarters? That would hurt!

Made even tougher if you're shooting for a VF+ and problem free set.

    What the heck.

Got another email, he said that there was a glitch and someone bought the original listing, it relisted, which I won. He said he is going to have to sell it to the 1st buyer.

I have a screen shot proving I was the 1st buyer, which I sent.

Mutiple re-listings, saying I didn't win, when I did, this is all starting to make me feel sick, I have a feeling I will never see this coin. This guy has all perfect feedback and has been on eBay since '99. I don't think he's a scammer, just utterly confused.

Ya sounds like something happened. Sorry man! And sorry to hijack ur thread lol. If it makes you feel any better... there were over 4 million of those minted. So there are a LOT out there. In fact, thats the 7th most common out of roughly 120 coins. And with the crummy pics, you might have wound up regretting it..I mean you might have gotten a great deal, but if you wouldn't have been happy with the looks of the coin, even paying 1/3 or 1/4 of its book value is too much cause you could use it elsewhere. And BTW that coin is roughly as common as a 46-S Washington. I would pay no more than melt for that coin in any condition up to and including XF...especially if there was any question on it being cleaned. So maybe it'll work out for the better if you don't get it.

Did you really have to bump this? Man...I kind of enjoyed seeing this thread get buried by the newer stuff.

My apologies. I've read about 150 Detecto threads today and in none of them has he owned up to his...umm..."questionable business decisions" in certain dealings and as this was the most recent one I thought I might bump it. At least I didn't reincarnate one from 15 months ago, like the one I just finished reading.

    Geoff,

You can ask, but don't expect an answer. Our little buddy is notorious for hit and run threads (and coin buying interests in general) so even if he buys, its likely a dead issue, especially since he now realizes this not a "score" at all.

While on the subject, its funny that one can sell and accept PayPal, but not use the same account to buy with; instead expecting sellers to accept and wait on his money orders. How ironic that the eBay crusader thinks it okay when he's breaking the rules, but when someone else does.... Watch out.

By Wednesday Detecto will have created an entirely new and dramatic mess. If you have not noticed yet, it is a recurring theme for him. Always something going on with our friend Detecto. Never a dull moment.
