I was running errands tonight and stopped by a local sporting goods store. I could see it wasn't busy inside so I stopped in and asked if they had $2 in nickels I could get. They guy gave me a roll in one of those clear plastic sleeves. I went through it when I got home and found this. Am I correct that it is a die cap?

    Looks like PMD to me.

I was just searching this online and came up with a few CT threads that said coins like this could be from being in a dryer too much. Does it look like that is what happened to this coin?

I'm thinking it is the beginning of a "spooned" coin...where the edges have been repeatedly tapped with a spoon. Either way, it is post-mint damage.

Definitedly not a die cap. Completely different animal. And not a "washing machine coin" either. (That's a new one on me.) As others have stated the other laundry appliance (the dryer) is high on the suspect list for the cause of this PMD.
