Does this Saxon look genuine?

    Not my area but I have seen some fakes on other boards and those look OK to me.

    Looks good to me too - a very nice example. Anything under GBP300 would be a bargain.

    Looks to be a genuine seller too - realistic range of coins, and great feedback.

    Didn't Aethelred the Unready give a bunch of them to the Vikings?

    Yes Aethelred and many of the other Saxon Kings paid "Danegelt" to the vikings in an effort to control their pillaging. Gradually the vikings began to settle, and in typical "British" style ended up being absorbed into the general population. Their ancestors are still here.

    Next but one king after Aethelred was Cnut - who was a Dane, and after a series of marriages between the Saxon and Viking families contending for the throne, by the time of Edward the Confessor both Nationalities were represented.

    Then the Normans came and messed it all up again!

    Don't forget we are a mix of Saxon,Celt,Roman,Norman,Viking....wet nosed mongrol's and planted the seed in the US.:)

    Indeed we are :)

    We have the most amazing history in the world, I absolutely love it, if only I was good at writing maybe I could have done it in college or uni :/

    I suck at writing essays
