I think there is a clash on the obverse north of the ear and look at the reverse between the wing and earth.
I don't think its a talon head clash probably PMD, the link provided is probably the best resource for learning about the talon head clash and how to identify it. http://www.ikegroup.info/?page_id=49
Any ideas about the reverse of this Ike? There is a large ridge from UNUM to the eagles wing and it causes the earth to have a tilt.
I can clearly see on the reverse what you are saying but do not know if it is simply metal flow like on an older capped bust or and actual die clash. Im certain someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in here, the only thing im 100% sure of is it is not a talon head clash....
The reverse definitely shows evidence of a clash but the "talon" part just isn't there. Typically, the Talon portion on the 74-D's is very small.
Could the obverse have a different type of clash, look at the area directly above the ear in this photo,do you think there is a clash with the wing on the reverse?
The clash on the reverse is from Ike's jaw. Very nice one at that. The area just slightly above the ear is interesting, but I'm not sure what it is. The area half way up Ike's head is PMD. By the way, you also have a nice Moon-line or Head-line clash just above DOLLAR on the reverse. See the spread out upside-down half circle that runs into the crater? Lastly, on the obverse you have a "lip clash" coming from the lips.
Do you think this coin is worth getting slabbed? I got 300 Ike dollars that came from a west coast hoard vault as a xmas gift.
GREAT Christmas gift. I would love that! Not sure on slabbing. The clashes are not bringing much of a premium yet, but you do have a nice coin.
