I found this in a box of nickels yesterday. First war nickel I've found that isn't all worn and black/grayish in color. I was wondering if it might be considered full step and what grade you would give it. Unfortunately, these are the best pics I could get and I don't think the pictures do it justice especially in the step area. As always, thanks for the help everyone.
Too many blemishes on the steps, so it's not a FS in my opinion. Still a nice find and nickel though.
Thanks for the input so far everyone. The doubled look to Monticello is just from the way the pic came out (unfortunately).
Yeah its an AU. Looks to be well-struck but you can't tell if it is FS from those pics...though I really doubt it is. Nice AU though!
Yeah, melt for war nickels is about $1.75 right now. Average raw BU's get multiples of that...say 6 to 12 bucks. High-grade examples are much more. I'd pay up to 4 or 5 dollars for a nice AU I think.
Man, I wish I had the ability to look past so many flaws and consider everything in perfect condition like you do.
Ah, sort of like the strobe light honeys... they look good in the dark and in the strobe light until the lights turn on, then you're making excuses that you have to go.
Greg, Larry Briggs knows how to grade Jefferson Nickels. Equating his skills to the post made here is a little over the top if you ask me. Furthermore, he is a member of this forum and I have seen him chime in from time to time.
Fair enough. It was SGS I was actually thinking of. My bad Larry, take no offense. In related news, someone being a member here has absolutely no influence on any posting I make. Mistaken identity in this case.
LOL, SGS is more like it. As far Larry being a member, I was just hinting that popcorn might become necessary.
