    Hello all,
I am bound & determined to put a stop to all the scamming people on eBay. My research is now focused towards proving these brown BOA rolls are not real. I have talked to the fine employees of the main branch at 345 Montgomery Street. There is 1 person that has been at the branch for 35 years. This person tells me that the penny rolls have always been red. Can anybody help me to verify that BOA has always used red rolls for their pennies? And for those of you who do sell on eBay, and this bothers you... TOUGH LUCK!!!!

    Happy Holidays

I am not sure of exactly which "brown" rolls you are discussing, and why it is important that they are originally from a bank of America branch.

It was common with Bank of America to give empty flat paper coin tubes ( with their name) to their customers to roll their coins for deposit, so anyone could put coins into a BoA wrapper and no one could tell the difference. Red rolls also would turn a reddish-brown color over long time due to the pigment degrading.

    Welcome to the forum.

The "main branch" where? BoA's headquarters are in Charlotte, NC. Just because there is one person who has been at the branch for 35 years, doesn't mean that person is privy to all that goes on at the other 5,599 branches. That one person may have been at that same building for 35 years, but I'll guarantee you it wasn't BoA for the majority of them.

I don't think your "crusade" is worth the effort. If you don't like those sellers, then don't do business with them. Sure, they may be stupid or missing a few screws, but that doesn't mean they are scammers.

    How kind of you.

As Rick already said... good luck. You are not the first to go on some sort of coin related crusade, and you will not be the last. The best thing you can do is to accept that this so called "scam" is a reality and there is little you can do about it. Scream from the hilltops if you wish, but people will still buy these things day in and day out. The point is that while your heart may be in the right place, in the end you will change nothing, especially with the "tough luck" attitude. No one who sells this stuff is going to be running scared over your being "bound and determined" to stop it. You cannot save the world, so worry about yourself first.

I will never understand why certain (often) newer collectors think that they are somehow going to "save" other people, as if they are the first to ever catch on to the wrong doings or questionable practices.

    Carry on, carry on....

I know I am not going to have any luck stopping people from their scams. But I figure the more I ask and learn (especially by using certain terms & phases) the better off I am to figure out what I need to know to protect myself from those people. As far as the Brown SF rolls go. I am trying to figure out if Bank of America ever used plain brown (shotgun) wrappers. And if so, What time frame. One can learn a lot from another's reaction!!!

First of all there is no need for that font personally it makes me not want to read what you typed, but I am amused by those scams so I kept reading.

I agree with you that these are clealy scams, but if you don't know that going in to them shame on you. It is a business and people are welcome to make money doing it. Most collectors know better than to fall for that, but for someone that is looking for a surprise or think they can get that home run coin for a cheap price more power to them and even more power to the ones making money off of it.

I will keep the font to a size that pleases those who complain. Although I am one that really cares less about such petty things. That's more of the speed of the simple minded. Yes, I can be very hash with my words. Again, I am not here to make buddies. But if there are people here that are genuinely honest and can keep the subject to "the subject".. AWESOME!!! If your one to always cry & complain... Take it elsewhere. I am just looking for information about the different type of shotgun bank wrappers that BofA has used over the years. If you don't know, that is fine. If you do know and are willing to share that information, I thank you & appreciate your knowledge.

Overall, this is a great site. I do enjoy reading many post here. And I have gained much knowledge from them.
    Thank you

    Happy Holidays

I think they do make brown penny rolls too, or did. Is your issue that counterfeit penny rolls are being made, or that people are loading them themself claiming they are unsearched bank rolls straight from BOA?

i worked at a bank for many years. we just had generic coin rolls. from time to time they would be different colors depending on what manufacturer we were using at the time. red rolls would definitely turn a brownish color after that many years. as far as getting rid of the scammers on ebay that just isn't going to happen. the could be from any part of the world posting auctions as if they live in the US. best you can do is report directly to ebay if you feel something is a scam. more than likely that isn't going to do anything. even if the seller gets kicked off they will have 3 more usernames by the end of the day. it's buyer beware.

Years ago, when I was actively searching rolls, I was told by the head cashier at my BoA branch that they use a regional BoA depository (here in Florida, at least) to supply all of the branches with boxes of rolls and the only time that the depository places new orders from the Fed or Wells Fargo or wherever necessary to get them is when their supply runs low. So, isn't it possible that some rolls coming from one branch or another may not have the red wrapper?

    For what it's worth........

.........aren't comments like this sort of self-defeating? If most other members are turned off by such comments, how will you expect to get answers to other questions?

Ron - typing in all caps and bold is considered yelling and rude. Whether you care or not doesn't matter. It's irritating and not needed. But, you don't care if you make buddies or enemies, so be it.
