Die cracks don't detract from the eye appeal of 19th-century issues for me. Neither do clashes. They're a part of the charm of older coins, imo.

So how can you tell the difference between a die crack and a scratch. I wouldve assumed that was an early scratch

No problem... mine are not so hot either. One thing you might want to consider is that certain scratches can have a raised appearance too. This results from metal being displaced instead of removed.
