Is "dark side" a nickname for foreign collectors?

I've heard it referenced in a few threads here.

Are you guys Sith lords or something? Are US collectors in any danger of being sliced in half with a light sabre??

The "Darkside" (all one word) came into use on the PCGS forum a decade or so ago as a descriptive term for non-US coins, which were referred to as the "liteside". Canadian coins quickly became the "greyside".

Over the years those terms have come into fairly widespread use, and as scottishmoney pointed out, nowadays "darkside" often refers to "anything outside my own country" when used by non-US collectors.

With China going as it is, US coins will soon be part of the foreigners.

She is a very sweet and loving dog to my immediate family and our other dog and cats. But she is fiercely protective of my family - and I don't really have a problem with that. She has shredder teeth and literally rips up all her dog toys, even those Kong things get shredded by the Siberian.

Does it? I've never heard or read it except when used by American collectors who refer to non-US pieces.

My lightside is Russia, Poland, Romania, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Japan, and of course Scottyland. I didn't even collect USA coins until a couple of years into collecting. All the first coins in my collection were from Asia.
