What are your collecting goals for 2013? I'm beginning to realize that my Kennedy set is going to be a life-long pursuit. I'd like to find as many toned coins for it as possible. So I was considering a US Nickel type set - that is, a type set of every coin that used nickel, either exclusively, or in an alloy - starting with the 3-cent pieces, and working through all the modern clad coinage. A high-grade collection of this kind is well within my budget. I'm also drawn to the Cuauhtemoc coins of Mexico, and may throw together a type set of coins that feature him. What are you guys contemplating?
add the last 4-6 date for my MS-64-FBL Franklin set. also to find 1950-1953 PR-67DCam Franklin Proof to finish off my Franklin sets.:devil:that not Big money+ that is the hard part on this set. 2013 will bring a new 100th AV Buffalo nickle commemorative silver and the 24k gold may change?? I will buy 1 for sure. :yes:other than that working on World UK+German coinage sets
I am a new collector and only have silver in my collection so far. Nothing over spot value. BUT, i absolutely love Mercury dimes. I plan on putting together a set of them. Any suggestions on where to buy? I was looking at Teletrade. Also raw or graded is the best bet? Edit: Jello, im not sure what UK/German coins your collecting but I am located in Germany so if you need help getting something let me know. Although I speak no German so my usefulness may be limited
I am going to continue with my US type set, but I definitely want to slowly ease into colonial US and hard times tokens. Besides that, I am always on the lookout for toned Lincoln cents and Parthian Drachms. :smile
I'd like to win the lottery so I can stay home full-time and manage my collection (among other things). But given that goals should be attainable, and I don't play the lottery (it's a tax on the mathematically-impaired), that seems far-reaching at best. So I plan to sell off my junk/extras - that may take all of 2013. If it does not, then with those proceeds I'd like to work on my two theme sets: - WWII - Darkest Days, or coins that would have been in circulation in 1942. - Huckelberry Fin set - or coins that would have been in circulation at the time HF is set in, or around 1840. VF to AU for both.
No real collecting goals for me. I just kind of drift along. I'll continue adding to my large cents and bust halves and grab up whatever else catches my eye. None of my long term goals could be achieved in a single year, even if I won the lottery, so I don't set any that short term. Guy
For 2013 i would like to finish my circulated Lincoln set (09s, 09s vdb, 14d). Finish my circulated Jefferson set. Help the wife finish her Peace dollar set. Knock some coins out on my graded type set, and start buying some toned cents.
Bingo! Sounds just like my strategy minus the focus on those 2 particular series (although im in the market for my first Bust Half)
I have brought rolls in to coin roll hunt at work in the down times. People walk by and ask what i have found, they are always in awe when they see things from the WWII era, like you realize that could have been in someone pocket during WWII?? I just smile.
I collected like that in my youth, and it was a blast. Whatever caught my eye or fired my imagination for history...:thumb:
I need just one thing. One sole 2012 D cent!!! I've found many throughout the year and stashed them in my "Check Later" coffee can. I recycle its contents throughout the year without checking. :dead-horse: Other than that, my Mercury dime collection needs work. Happy New Year!
My goal is to collect what I like, coins. Still going to be adding more toned Morgans to my collection. Plus, will always be looking for affordable gold coins. And since I started buying paper money, which is another money eating hobby. I'm looking for whatever notes that catches my eye.
Nothing really specific as far as date/mm. I'm just planning on adding some nice high grade Franklins to my collection. I'd also like to keep adding raw higher grade early Jeffersons.
I hope to get that one monster EOR toned Morgan. Hopefully, I can manage my hobby budget so when the perfect one comes along I will have the cash to jump on it. Also I'd like to add a few $10 gold to my box O twenty tens. My two goals may exclude each other.
I have several numismatic goals this year. 1. I want to complete my first album. Hopefully it's going to be my Washington Quarters or Mercury Dimes. 2. Work quite a bit on my US Type Album 3. Get my very own 1916-D Mercury Dime Good luck to all of you in your endeavors in the New Year!!
