Do any of you foreign gurus collect this big Mexican coin?

I saw a few at the LHC that were a bit circulated, but not bad - and not much over spot.

I'm in love with this design, and thought I'd pick one up as a type coin. Any general advice?

Unless its a really nice, lustrous BU, it should never be over spot. I own about 12 of them, all of them bought at spot, and nearly all BU. They were massively saved, so I would say at least half are BU.

I have a few myself and paid spot for them. The older Reales will command more money even in lower grades.

Gees, I really like the BU examples of those - have to find one for my Mexican hoard. My dad went to the '68 Olympics in Mexico City and brought back quite a bit of the coins that were circulating there at the time, my favourite though is the large copper 50 centavos coins. At one time I had a pile of the large 20 centavos coins, but probably lost them in my youth.

I got several of these when I was a kid in the 1960's.

    They were quite common then.

    I still have them.
