Never seen a '2' like that.......

And the discolored circular area around it makes one suspicious, very suspicious.

I think it is pretty evident that the "2" has been altered. Here is a photo of what a genuine 32-S looks like.

Strangely, this issue is not typically altered by changing the last digit of a later date 30's "S" mint quarter. Rather, most simply add a mintmark to a 1932 Philadelphia quarter. Since your coin is circulated, hopefully you didn't pay much more than $100 for it.

There is no question it is an alteration. Look at the wear on the 1,9,3, they are rounded and worn. the "2" is very sharp and new. Not only is the 2 obviously wrong looking but there is discoloration around it.

I don't mean to indict your seller-friend but this is such an obviously altered coin it would make me worry about earlier purchases. Are they TPG-graded? Is that why you know they are quality, genuine coins?

It looks altered, but what year would they have used to do this? No other year even looks close to this.

The only digit that seems to come close is a "9".

That seems plausable, I've never seen that sort of alteration on this coin. It seems like it would be much easier to add a mintmark to a common Philly 32 than to do all of that work.

BTW Chris, my APA team won the southern regional, see you in Vegas this year?

I had to give up pool in 2010 because I developed an intention tremor in my stroke hand. It had been bugging me for quite a few years, but it finally got so bad that it destroyed all of my mechanics. That's okay! I had 55 years of fun. I haven't been to any of the tournaments in Vegas since 2007. Congratulations on your team's win, and good luck out there!

I heard that the BCA moved from the Riv not too long ago. Where is the APA being held now?

I still have about 50 BCA, VNEA and APA casino chips from the Riv.
