Nice coin. But before you spend money on more, you really should pick up "United States Early Half Dollar Die Varieties". If you're going to pursue this series the book would make it much more enjoyable. Guy
"The estimated mintage of 5,493,400 half dollars with the 1827 date was completed using twenty-nine obverse dies and thirty-four reverse dies. This combination of sixty-three obverse and reverse dies produces forty-nine marriages or varieties for the year." AL C. Overton Your coin has the square based two so that narrows it down to forty-seven marriages..... You need to buy the book!
Detecto, I'm done giving you advice via PM if you're not gonna listen to a word I say... :rollling: Don't expect to hear back from me any longer.
Just a tad curious why you havn't purchased a book? You have enough money to buy the coins, and the time to make several threads a day so you really should have the time and money to buy an adequate book.
$100 for a quality reference is a few cents compared to the knowledge that you will gain that will save 10x fold the money
Considering you probably spent more than 100$ already on the coins before the book, maybe when you finally do decide to buy one, perhaps you can teach our highly inquisitive minds something?
Let me jump right on this for you, sir. No, wait.... I've a better idea. If this CBH thing is a true and sincere interest, stop buying a new coin every few days, smarten up, and buy a (the) book. I do not mean to be harsh, but there is a big difference between asking for help and regularly expecting others to do your homework for you. I guess some things never change. If you are serious about your hobby, you need to understand is that there is a lot more to it than spending your days scanning eBay or TeleTrade and throwing bids at coins. Quality reference material can pay for itself many times over, and in some cases, even on one buy, so look at it like money in the bank. No "Christmas money" necessary. Another thing... when you say things like "won it for VF20 money", what are you using as a value reference? http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/product/early-half-dollar-die-varieties-1794-1836.html Is this book not "adequate" enough for such a serious "capped bust nut"? This was found within ten seconds of searching, and I've little doubt one could be found for even less, but again this is your responsibility, not ours.
Listen to what these people are saying. It's fine and encouraged to ask many questions, but you make so many that could easily be answered by either buying the appropriate books and/or typing your question into a search engine. Too many times you ask someone else to do your work when in reality the poster above me did it in seconds. Even with these unnecessary threads members still are glad? to help you. This post is by no means to be an insult, but more of a wake up that you really need to contribute and try looking first, before you're so quick to ask someone else for readily available answers.
Hey... only 99 more die marriages to go and you'll be eligible for the BHNC... .http://busthalfnutclub.org/Membership.html
It is a nice pickup, but as mentioned you will need to get a reference book. Way too many 1827 varieties for me to work through. The I/T alignment will probably eliminate a lot of varieties, but then there are secondary items that I might not be able to see in the pictures.
