Found this in a junk silver lot I bought off eBay. I suspect it's worth rather more than scrap in this condition, but I don't have a catalogue of Australian coins handy. Help would be very much appreciated !
According to the catalog, $22 in F, $75 in VF. I really don't think there is a buyer who`d pay this much for it. Here is an eBay auction where it sold for a reasonable price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1247-037-AU...=&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
I find the NGC world coin price guide handy. http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/WorldCoinPrices.aspx?category=40075&worldcoinid=115695 Not a cheap coin in good grade. The proof is expensive.
I'm really confused by the eBay sales - here's one which sold for $185 (Aus) in similar condition - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/26081152...sid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true#ht_2849wt_1063 !
That coin is clearly in better grade. Also:
Start Time: Friday, 01-Jul-11 21:23:59 End Time: Thursday, 22-Nov-12 16:12:20
It took 1.5 year to Fixed-Price/BIN sell it Seems like a weird listing, you got to take multiple completed auctions into consideration, not pick one with highest price. Also, eBay is full of morons. I saw bids for a certain coin going into $70s while same coin from numerous other sellers was offered as BIN for $20.
Fair enough. I've seen a few go for prices in the $15-20 range, probably will just list it and see what happens.
It's probably worth around £5 however I would not pay over that for it Infact I would want it for £5 posted at the most, however I am patient and willing to wait for coins hence how I've built a decent sized British colonial collection on a shoestring budget over 6 months !
Interesting. Some of the early 20th century Australian coins have very odd prices in the Krause catalog.
