I'm interested in buying a whole bunch of wheats! Not sure what I should buy these for. I'm doubting its worth $100. Hes asking $100. What should I offer him not knowing what is in there! I'll be getting more information on them this weekend! http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/clt/3481441328.html
Let's do a little math. It takes 145 wheat cents to make a pound. So by rough estimate, there is about 760 wheat cents in there. Common prices are 3-5 cents each. So you would be paying 13 cents each for them. Even if you offered him $50, still not enough. Here is 1000 wheat cents for $50, shipped. That's only 5c each with shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1000-Lincol...94?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3cccff3d4a You can buy a bag of 5000 for $200 shipped on ebay. That's 4 cents each.
I bought a lot of 1000 one time for $35. I actually found a few wheats worth a couple bucks each. It can go either way. A dealer buys a collection of them in bulk from someone, and doesn't take the time to sort them, or a seller does take the time to sort them. You just never know. If a listing says "unsearched", its not always true,
If your bored as your mood suggests, you can sort through rolls of cents for wheats. I find about a dozen per box. Time consuming, yes. But your only spending 1 cent each that way.
I've been coin roll hunting. I got 5,000 pennies yesterday! It was pretty fun! I'll probably stick to that until I get an actual real deal. I'm going to my grandpas for Christmas so I'll probably get some coins there too!
I myself have found as few as one wheat(but it was a 1926), and as many as 300+. Yesterday I searched through $60 and found like 18 of them, earliest a 1919-S.
