Some of my research is with gold, so here are a couple of pictures - before it is melted and turned into coins. The first pic is flakes of gold produced from a bulk till sample heavy mineral concentrate. The second photo is placer gold from the Yukon. The Lasqueti Mint, a private mint in British Columbia, used Yukon gold for this coin - which I love.
Two releases from 2012 from the Royal Canadian Mint. I normally shy away from NCLT like this, but the theme was the Cariboo gold rush in north-central British Columbia. I had done some fieldwork in that region back in 1999, and the reverse designs fit my 'geology/exploration' thematic collection - so I bought them. First one is a 50-cent coin, 1/25th of an ounce, second one is the normal 100 dollar 14K issue. ...and yes, that is a camel in the background. The early prospectors tried using them as pack animals in the late 1890s: http://www.cariboogoldrush.com/wagonroa/camel1.htm
