I looked at raw Morgan dollars but once you send one into the plastic factory, you might as well buy one already slabbed. The cheapest method at PCGS is $42.95, you would have to pay around $35-$40 for a raw Morgan in great condition, so when you add it up, it's about $20 more than what I paid for the Morgan above.

The minimal grading fee for a Morgan dollar is $18 on a single coin, but if you are not bundling it with other pieces and have to pay postage, etc...based on that one coin then it adds up quickly.

 

Why does it have to be slabbed? Half my MS morgans are raw.

 

Why sucketh... find a coin... any coin.. your pick.
Check out the sale price, then add in shipping.
Then check Ebay for comparable sales.
Then check HA for comparable sales.
Then check anywhere else for comparable sales.
... then let us know what you find.

I have never found a steal, or even a "really" good buy on TT. I found both just about everywhere else I shop (shows, ebay, HA, etc...)
I don't like their hidden reserves, they do NOT allow for 'rips' or even good deals imo.

Every post I have ever seen on this forum claiming that the OP just got a "great" deal on TT has resulted in a firm belly laugh... so please,
keep them coming.. baha.

That said, I have paid through the nose to get a targeted coin from TT before... Beautiful coin... paid through the nose.. probably could have
saved hundreds had I been a bit more patient....... anyway, it's a good site for picking up coins that you don't mind bleeding to get.
They do offer some hard to find stuff every now and then... just be ready to pay baby. Would be interesting to know what you paid for that Morgan....then ask the forum how many would have
paid as much has you did.

 

I wouldn't say that any coins on TT are "great deals", but there has been a few times where I would of paid a little more if I had won the coin on feebay.

 

I have purchased lots on both the bay and at HA and at shows where I was able to sell the bulk of the lot and keep the targeted coin (for free) within the lot.. including a pgcs vf09s-vdb.
Have done that on ALL those forums.....
I'm pretty sure you could never do that from TT.. ever.

.. but keep trying !! High sale prices are good for the hobby ; )

I was about to type exactly the same message.

Tomorrow I plan to visit the Naugatuck coin show. It is a small show with about 6-10 dealers. For fun I will search each dealer table for their 1880-S dollars (in MS62-64) & determine if there is a decent deal to be made.

 

I was looking for an MS63/64 1880-S dollar for further discussion with Detecto. This fellow approached me at the Naugatuck coin show this last weekend & handed me this MS69 version of the coin. He allowed me to take these photos of his coin.

 

What did you think of that young fella?

I have Teletrade send me an e-mail every time they list a large cent.

I've not found a large cent to bid on at Teletrade in three years.

That should tell you a lot about how I view the quality of old copper on Teletrade.
