I plan on doing these 4 times a week if I have the time to. Tonight auction was kind of "meh". Many lots were problem coins. There were also high opening prices as well. Here are some highlights from tonight's sale. I will post the realized prices once they become available. A beautiful 1870 PF66 J-832 Pattern Dime. An ICG MS-64 Trade dollar. Love the colors on this. 1837 Hard Times Token. I even purchased a coin from tonight's auction. I bought an 1880-S morgan in MS-62. I know it's low grade, but I LOVE the luster.
I like your morgan alot too. It's what your opinion is about the coin not the TPGs' (unless you're selling, of course. Than your opinion's worth zippo).
I like the luster on your coin too. I forget to look at teletrade a lot, so this will be helpful for me.:thumb:
I'm starting to like TT better than eBay. Lots of sellers on the bay take poor photos, and I think coins on TT tend to sell a tad cheaper.
The dime pattern sold for $3,700, the Dollar did not sell, I think it had an opening bid of like $2000. The hard times token did not sell, I think it's opening bid was around $500.
Hey, what do you know, we found someone who likes the A Coins in your thread. http://www.cointalk.com/t219180/ FWIW, the reverse of that Morgan looks better than MS62.
Okay, why all the hate for Teletrade? 1. All there auctions end at the same time, so you don't spend all dang day waiting for auctions to end. 2. Photos are very good, not the best, but better than 80% of eBay sellers. 3. They have a reward points program, I'm not to far off from a free red book. 4. They package items well. 5. There shipping costs are reasonable. 6. They sometimes have an excellent collection of coins up for bidding.
1. Why do I care? I work nights, and I work from home. I sit here and camp auctions I'm interested in. 2. They do offer decent photos, but the photo's can be misleading. Then again, so can any photo... I much prefer HA's photos and GC's are slightly better than TT as well. 3. Spend $1000 and you get a free red book, wow that's great. You pay for those "rewards" with your buyers and sellers premiums, it's not free. 4. That they do... so does HA, GC, etc. 5. You mean their, not there. Shipping costs are reasonable, yeah... in line with everybody elses. GC shipped my first wins for free. 6. Yeah, sometimes... but most of the time, it' dealers crap they can't sell in their shop/at shows (AKA dreck, in the words of a popular coin dealer). If not that stuff, then it's usually stuff they themselves own, and just keep relisting until someone gets suckered and bids on it. You're giving them credit for things that are average or normal. Silly.
Heritage has me listed as a legacy client and they treat me very well. The most obvious bonus is that they ship my signature auction purchases directly from the show and don't wait for me to complete payment before doing so. They send me free gifts once or twice a year. The last gift was a hard cover book entitled: The Secret History of the US Mint. Just a little more interesting than a book I already have (redbook). Other benefits include discounted consignment rates, free upgrading and CAC submissions, discounted TPG submission rates, direct access to a Heritage VP as my consignment director, among others. So you can see why I would place Heritage as my favorite venue. But the truth is, Heritage has the best coins. The collections offered on TT are not even in the same league. Having said all this, I spent a lot of money over the years to end up as a legacy client. I never bought coins for ancillary benefits, but you were the one who brought up the subject of loyalty programs so I just thought it appropriate to talk a little about Heritage's program.
Not a fan of TT really (don't like the website design at all) but if the OP wants to give a report (assuming it is decent) I will be interested. I like looking at coins and prices. A nice coin is a nice doesn't matter where it comes from. I love that pattern, I have never seen it before and I am grateful he took the time to post a picture of it and the price.
What Happened? The last I knew you were all PO'ed at TT for charging a buyers premium and you weren't going to pay for your win?? Whatever! I like Teletrade just as much as any other venue although the pictures do leave a lot to be desired. I try to make Tuesday Noghts my serious night WHEN there's something I want. As for "dealers dreck"? Not always. I;ve found some nice CPG coins on TT. Both attributed (which saves me money) and unattributed. I bought a 1943 Washington one night and turned out to be DDO FS-102 which was a very pleasant surprise. I've also purchased coins off TT for less than $30 and turned around and sold the very same coins for better than $500. I suppose this is because some folks thumb their noses at TT which is OK by me. It makes shopping a little bit easier.
I like Teletrade's Tuesday night auctions as well, but lately the silver commems section has been offering a lot of details graded stuff. I have picked up some nice stuff on the modern silver commem section for reasonable prices. I like to think of Teletrade as the blue collar auction house which caters to the 'coin slob' in me.......
What do you collect? Hello Detecto, I look forward to seeing your auction reports as they may become available. Regarding the 1880-S Morgan, you can do very well finding an 1880-S coin raw & in great condition. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the population report when I signed into NGC just now. As I recall, there are tens of thousands in plastic and the San Francisco mint did a great job making good looking 1880-S coins. I don't know what you paid for the depicted coin but IMO her face is pretty banged-up. The reverse looks much better than the obverse. I suspect if we take time to look around, we might do better than the one depicted in the Teletrade photo. Please keep the coin photos coming.
