I think small date, loop on the 9 points towards 7. LIBERTY looks weak but hard to say for sure from pic.
Large date. It's the one that I call a medium date, it's different than other large dates and it fools many.
This is the place to go to find out what a weak liberty looks like on a small date and the differences in the dates. The date differences are quite minute but worth knowing. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html
well every characteristic on the coin in hand goes with the small date on every site i have looked on so thanks for everyones help
That's a large date. The 7 is too low, "Liberty" is too strong, and the 9 isn't curved upward enough. I can't wait until someone posts an actual small date on here, it will be quite refreshing. Keep looking!
As was mentioned, they haven’t. Yet, I’d swear there’s at least two different large dates. The op's coin has a shorter tail on the 7, the inside loop of the 9 is blunt, yet the blunted corner appears to point east similar to the small date, and the tops of the numbers are more level than other large dates. This is the variety I most often see confused for the small date. I have several rolls of both types and because of the difference, at first thought I had some small dates, until I bought a certified small date for comparison. Btw, the posted coin clearly has a strong LIBERTY, not a weak one. OK, here's a comparison, the first pic is what I call a medium date and is the same as the OP's coin, the second pic is what I call a large date, neither of these coins are a small date. Notice the difference?
The 1970 s small date is the last coin I need to finish my Intercept LMC w/ proofs album. Every other coin is a red gem. I've done a lot if research on this one coin, but I've yet to find one in the quality I'm looking for that fits my budget at the moment. Think maybe next month I'll be sure to post pics!
