Stay on your path frosty. The world will always be full of idiots. You don't have to run with that pack.
Hey, I'm more than happy to look through bags of half dollars or wheat cents (unless they're dirty/corroded, then that's a pain!) looking for that reward!
Coin collecting is what you make of it, You can either have a container of 100 coins worth $1000, or you can have 1 $1000 coin. Me personally, I used to have a bunch of dreck, but in all honesty, it's better to have a few nice coins than a bunch of dreck. I don't get people who have pails and pails of wheat cents and junk silver, why not cash it out and buy a few nice coins?
True, but to get $1,000...I have to accumulate lots of junk silver. College students don't just have $1,000 lying around all the time. I used to have buckets of junk sitting around...now I'm trying to refocus it into keys, better grades/dates, gold, and "really cool stuff." I have my lists of stuff I hoard...but I try not to have too much stuff that I have to carry around with me.
I love getting silver at flea markets. There is one open for about 7 months a year a couple miles away from me and I go to the same guy every week where he always sells me his silver for under spot. I got about 30 Mercury Dimes various dates for probably $1.80 each even a Barber. Also bought halves and quarters from him and even 3 Barber quarters for about $5 each too. I even trading a few boxes of old sports memorabilia to him for two ASE's. Needless to say I enjoy looking for silver at flea markets.
I wish I read this when I was a young adult playing Doom I. Didn't start figuring this stuff out until my late 20's. Six Harsh Truths That Will Make You a Better Person: http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-truths-that-will-make-you-better-person/ The fact that you are a YN sets you above the herd IMHO.
I used to have a good-sized box of junk silver. I liked to run my hands through it and feel the silver clink and clatter and go, "Mine, it's all MINE!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
That really was a solid game. I miss those days. I realllly liked Duke Nukem 3D. Good stuff. When I first got into collecting/PMs, in the mid-2000s, I remember getting all kinds of goodies for cheap, since PMs were so low. I remember paying something like 5-6x face for super-worn Barbers, mercs, etc. I even got every silver coin from 1943 uncirculated (from a mint set maybe?). Only problem was there was pitting, possibly from a fire or something. But I paid melt. I do miss buying AG barber halves for $3 each. Wish I had known where the market was going.
10 line BBS.... good lord that was in the days before the mouse. We all worked at the command line, in dark place....
I had a mouse, and Windows 3.1 for workgroups! But mostly booted the dos in high memory. 640k only goes so far!
Oh I remember those days.... had to type win at the line to start windows. We all had memory managers to see how close we could get to 640... seemed like the best I could do was 628. 40 mb hard drives and 2mb of ram...
40mb?! That was a bloody luxury. I only had a 10mb drive...... Now which pocket did I leave my 64GB USB drive in....?
64 gb? I have two 128 GB SDHC Class 10 cards for my camera...lol...although I wish I could use them as expanded memory for my iPad...
