Those all appear to be counterfeit as well.

And all bad ones at that (including the coin in the original photos). I think the OP now realizes (and states as such in post #41) that there are many more fake coins available than genuine.

Which one was the real one? The 20%?

I doubt you can find 20% of Bust dollars in South America to be real, unfortunately. Just like I could not find USA coins in the middle east that were genuine most of the time. They did not historically circulate there, so it would be surprising if they were found there today.

I live in South America and only buy proper certified US coins with no exception since, 1. I do not know US coins well enough to see a good fake 2. I see many many bad fakes being sold in antique places in Chile. As people figure out all the scams and put pressure on counterfitters they look for new markets. South America is it!

Conder , doesn't it look like the "96 was struck in a closed collar press ? I'd love to hear your comments .

The 1796 appears to be a relatively new Chinese counterfeit... I'm highly skeptical that this piece has been in a collection since the 50's.

I didn't see the reeded edge on the picture of the 1796 obverse the first time he posted it. That right there would condemn it as a fake.

It probably was struck in a close collar but that can sometimes be hard to tell from a straight on shot.

Claims of things from inheritances also have to be taken with a grain of salt. For a long time here in the US a common treasure that turned up in great great grandads old civil war chest that hadn't been opened for over a hundred years was a $1000 note of the Bank of the United States dated 1840 and they would be sure it was worth a fortune.

And they all had the serial number 8894. A souvenir item printed by a souvenir company in the late 1950's. (there is a real 8894 note, in the companies vault) The families can never seem to explain how it got in grampas trunk some 70 years before it was printed, or how I could tell them the date and serial number before they even showed it to me.

I thought it was just another pointer to the easy availability of fakes; didn't notice that it was a new poster. Without a link or any other evidence, I wouldn't consider it spam.
