That looks like a very neat error!! There is definitely another "S" but I honestly don't know what to say. I've never seen anything like this before and I'm even unsure of what PCGS will call it, "edge doubling" maybe? Maybe a more experienced member might have an idea of what this is.
    Cool stuff!! Thanks for sharing!!

Funny! My wife couldnt see it through the glass but after a pic you sure can see it. I noticed on this site a few other entries of same thing. Just trying to figure out if I should retire now or wait for PCGS send it back to me in a body bag.....Thanks!!!

From my understanding of these this isn't an error at all but rather the coin made heavy contact with the edge of another coin and the letter was transferred from the edge of another coin.

What Matt has said is more plausible if you think about it.

The letters that are impressed into the edge are tapered from the top to the base. Therefore, if this was "double-struck" the letter would appear much thinner from a weak strike or, in the case of a full strike, it would be about the width of the "phantom" letter in question. Since it isn't that deep, you can rule out this theory.

About the only way you could have one show the width that this does is if the edge of another coin hit it. I might add, that if this is actually the case, it appears that the "phantom" letter hit it upside-down. The inside diameter of the upper loop doesn't appear to be large enough.

I am following you guys, but if the letter 's' is pressed into the edge then that would be a negative or impression. So is it plausible that the positive image of the 'phantom' letter was made by another coin? Hum..interresting. Got this one from the mint on one of those cards in plastic holder...Shoot! No retirement yet....darn it...
    thanks!!!!

Instead of an S could it be a backwards 2? The top part of the "phantom" letter looks more broad and resembles more like the 2 than the S

Sometimes they sell on ebay but usually when its on the obverse. I once sold a Buchanan dollar with a backwards "S" on his forehead for almost $100. Started it at .99

yeah, the more I look at it, if one letter then why not others? hum....I am starting to think it bumped into another. Would you send it in? Heck its only 20 bucks........

20 bucks for a coin with an error that likely is only worth a few more bucks. Why do people insist if they find an error coin that it's going to bump them into retirement immediately? I just don't get it. Even if it is an error (which I think it's not looking at the pictures and likely agreeing with what Matt said), the value alone likely only makes it a couple of dollars more.
