DO NOT SPEND $3000 ON IT!!! Get some better pictures first, and post them here. Ask the seller if he would be willing to have it sent to PCGS or NGC for authentication. There are many, many fake early dollars out there - be careful with your money.

You can send it in if you want, but that coin is 100% fake.

Bottom line state ment .. if you like the coin send it to ngc pcgs or such as you see fit.. and if its fake they'll tell you.. might be legit... but I cannot say

    This ^^^

If the seller is asking 3K for it, he should be willing to get it properly authenticated. If not, well...caveat emptor.

Plus, if authentic, this coin is worth a ton more than that. Ask yourself why someone wishes to sell a $30,000 coin for $3000. That will answer your question as to if its real or not.

Simple rule guys is if you can't authenticate it yourself and the seller wants over $250.00 of your money make him get it slabbed by PCGS or NGC or shop elsewhere.
I personally made it anything over $200.00 slabbed by PCGS back in 2004 unless I had it in my hand at purchase.
Buying online is a gamble at best and even eBay now has a rule you cannot sell any coin over $2500.00 without it being slabbed by the top four authentication services.

Like I said before the edge on this coin should have writing , to the effect of , 100 CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT , yours doesn't seem to have any writing , so it's 99.999% probably a fake .

From these picks it looks like reeded edges , which would make it a fake . It also looks cast . Probably off weight and the devices are mushy .

Here's a real one , notice the difference in lettering and all the devices , they are sharp compared to yours . Also these were struck in open collar presses which let the metal closest to the rims to flow outwards . Notice the difference in the dentils , on the real one they're more irregular .

There are only two varieties of 1795 draped bust/small eagle dollar. Neither of them come with that heavy arc crack from star 1 to star 13. And none of them come with a reeded edge. The 1795 is definitely fake.

There are only six varieties for 1796. This piece has the reverse used on B-1,2,3. NONE of the obverses hve the highest wave of hair further left than directly under the upright of the R. On your coin it is between the E and R. This position is not found on ANY 1796 dollar so this coin is a fake as well. The obverse appears to be based on the B-14 obv of 1795. There are a LOT of fake bust dollars based on this obverse. They made a hub based on this die and they use it to create undated dies and just put whatever date they need into the die. I have seen EVERY date from 1795 to 1804 made using dies from this hub.

The 1796 is counterfeit just as the 1795 is counterfeit.

I don't think that there are too many ships sailing into and out of Ft Knox. The back story on this coin is pure fantasy, making me believe the coin is just as much fantasy.
